You normally can, but I'd drop Mike Mellor an email to check.
Brilliant race. Stunning island.
EsT won 1:20:30 ish.. not sure 2nd, Carnegue guy, Brian Marshall third, Hunters lad 4th, forgot his name. me 5th 1:26 something. Not sure who won the womens, thought she was Carnethy but not sure. Jil Mykura was back running, she must have been 3rd or 4th woman..
I was 5th at the summit and 3rd and 4th were way ahead and Al Smith back behind me so I was able to take it easy on the descent. One fall and usual granite rash... but foot felt much stronger than it has for months..
Then did a 9.5 miler up another set of hills., legs are shattered now.
Deffo one to do again. I think he prefers pre-entry but as I'd emailed late on I got in. Friendly well organised race.
is this Goat Fell on Arran?
i've been up there lots on holidays, i'll try check the race out some time. any race in that setting would be great
Just got back from Goat Fell, think there were about 80 runners. Hell of a climb and downhill......take some plasters.
Iain, saw you briefly on The Adventure Show tonight on BBC2 Scotland, quite a lot of chat before/after with the top 3 men and women, and cameras at various points up the hill.
Not sure if this is available on the iPlayer or not for those who missed it.
Looks a good race.
ps "Goatfell", not "Goat Fell" :-)
Just checked Iplayer. Says 'available soon'.
I had an interview at the start, dunno why they picked on me to be honest, prob. ended on the cutting-room floor..... I,ll watch out for the i-player tho.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...Goatfell_Race/ I'm On! 3.30 in....do I really sound like that?
18th of May and.........full! In a panic now, need to get me Yorkshireman entry in, taking bets on how long that takes to fill-up...
Has anyone had a crack at this?
Did it last year... there's a thread somewhere.. great race. Fast running, a good mile on the road, then gradually ascending trail then a steep section at the top.. reverse route..
Most of it is very good running...
Stunning area so worth making a weekend and then head out the next day and get some miles on the ridges.
I'm staying up for a week with the bike and tent. I've been across Arran a few times on the bike and looked up and thought that looks ace (Goat fell). Lloyd and Jackie reckon Glen Rossa is a great race, but I have a trail marathon in June so I thought I would have a look at this one this year. From what I can see navigation is simple? And not really a mudclaw race? Although I found the road at the end of Jura ok in 'claws.
Event is full. See website.
Did this last year, longish run out on road and track, path up through rocks and slabs, steep at the top then back down same way...take some plasters.
It's a proper descenders race dnf. Not for mincers. Lol.
Or did you stop for a picnic at the top?
Glen Rosa is stunning!
Its only a mile.. and it is steep at the top. I think I wore solomans? not certain..
I emailed and got in late last time.. drop him an email?
I watched Chelsea Bayern there last time.. I hate chelsea.. but I turns out my hatred of scots who hate the english and support anyone but.. is greater.. so loved that game... :-)
But the area is that nice that I woke up.. ran.. went to the race.. ran.. did the race.. got back to my tent and went out and did 10 more miles over the glen rosa tops.. just couldn't stop running that day.. its just a stunning area..
I'm in! WOOHOO!!!
Snow on Arran overnight!
I enjoyed that!
Excellent day but I had a nightmare of a race. I suppose after 8 weeks of illness and injury, it wasn't totally unexpected. Got to the top in reasonable shape but ruined my race by kicking a rock near the summit and struggled to run (combination of pain and loss of confidence) from then on the down hills. Once on the flat lack f fitness really showed and the last mile and a half was tough.
Initially thought I had broken my toe but now appears only to be a bit swollen with a broken nail.
Thoroughly recommend this race. Plus the sandwiches and cakes were 1st class.
Is that the Leroy Kincaid from the ac/dc song?
Great race and nice to meet you skennaugh, rain heid off till late in the race , hail on the top make me cape-up tho. 55ml bike ride round Arran the day after was near as hard as race for me.
We had to escape the camp site. Had tea in a café after the race, got back to the tents and everything was soaked!
