BG attempt (7th July)
My mate Phil and I are attempting the Bob Graham on Saturday 7th July (1am start) and are looking for some more support runners. If any of you are free and willing to assist, that would be great. I can promise interesting if surreal conversation and a warm pint or two. We're not going to break any records (24 hours minus 1 minute would be the high point in my life). Having repeatedly run the various sections over the years I'm confident about navigating. And we'd be more than happy to support others in their attempts, please feel free to ask.
I should own up to being the one who commissioned the fell running piece of music for the BBC Philharmonic that was premiered in January in Kendal (and was the basis for the Radio 4 programme mentioned in an earlier thread with er... mixed response).

Sorry Andrew and I can't join you. (It's the weekend of The Saunders Mountain Marathon. It starts in Wasdale so if you see lots of nutters with rucksacks you'll not be hallucinating!!!
Good luck :)

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Hi Richard, sorry for slow reply (too much on at work); are you still up for a leg on Saturday? We've changed to start from Moot Hall at 7pm on Friday 6th and OK for first 3 legs. Might leg 4 be possible?

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
THanks Stef, as they say in my business I've got the pearlies (ie butterflies) but really looking forward to it. Now if I can just make the weather work for me.....
Best to Andrew

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
I'm still up for this wekend, even if the weather isn't. I've done leg 4 before but wouldn't like to take responsibility for navigating. Have you got a base where we could meet up before the start or will you send me your schedule etc for sorting out logistics. I've never done the third leg so I might join you for that as well if you don't mind. Anyway get back to me with your thoughts.
Cheers Richard

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Thanks Richard, no probs with navigation. I'll call you later (just waiting for news on an ill support runner for legs 1&2). If he drops out could you manage leg 2 (Threlkeld at 11pm ish on Friday
)? We're being mobile so no base as such but the team would get you back to your starting point. Weathers worrying though....

Thundery showers as of this evening mountain forecasts on MWIS and Met Office.... Good luck if you go for it, not a good "summer" for this sort of thing. I'm supposed to be doing a sub-12h Joss, unless I go Sunday...

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Any news on this!? It was chucking it down at our place last night, so it may have been horrendous in the lakes!?

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
lovely morning here and we missed the bad weather yesterday, so all who braved the initial bad forecast will be well rewarded. :D

Re: BG attempt (7th July)

I hear through the grapevine that Tom Hollins got round in 22.28(ish), sadly I wasn't there to seem him finish, got this news very early this morning. Tom had an 0230 start and I've been told it was a sprint finish up the High Street to finish before 0100. Tom is a strong lad and an excellent runner, this is a well-deserved success.
WELL DONE TOM!

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Thats great news! Tho' I don't know the guy. Its nice to see more success's! Could tip over the 2000 completers this year! Interestingly thats more than are recorded as West Highland Way Race completers ( I only know as my mate completed this year). Though I appreciate many, many more complete WHW at a stroll! :)

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Hmm, nowhere near - 1710 to the end of 2011 and just over 100 registrations this year. One or two delayed successes so far. I suspect that with the less than ideal weather of the last few weeks there will have been a few attempts that have been postponed, Tom's was one.

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Ah! Cheers for that!! Maybe I should go in 2014 and see if I can be #2000!!

The membership list in a word document can be downloaded from this page. It does not give the members gender however but I suppose for the majority of them you can guess if they are M or F

Re: BG attempt (7th July)
Heather Dawe was the 100th lady in 2007 and to the end of last year there were approximately 125 ladies who had been successful.

Hadn't noticed this before, well done Tom. I think Tom is the guy I bumped into on Ilkley moor and ran a lap of the fell race route with the weekend prior to his attempt. Nice to see it was successful
