People fishing on the canals
In my opinion nothing looks more depressing than a bloke covered in green cam coloured waterproofs with a little tent and bits and bobs next to a canal on a rainy day.
Their little hexi burners flickering away heating a cup of measly tea that in no way compensates for the depressing scenario that they find themselves part of. :w00t:

Re: People fishing on the cana
I haven't fished for years. I think the "nothing looks more depressing..." is a bit OTT but I do think canal fishing is pretty boring and I've always found it strange how someone can get excited by a 12oz roach.
Now a Nile perch, that's something else!!
I would perhaps say nothing is more depressing that someone sat at home on a Saturday afternoon, starting a thread on the fell runners forum about canal fishing :w00t:

Probably they were using fishing poles and they took one look at you Danbert and decided you wouldn't be nimble enough to hurdle them ;)

Re: People fishing on the cana
What is Danbert carping on about now?

Re: People fishing on the cana
Nah, just thought we might have found something for the Guinness Book of Records.
Then I realised it was a load of carp.

As the thread has now gone onto two pages it would have been easy for that comment to have 'slipped through the net' sbrt :w00t:

Re: People fishing on the cana
Danbert, on this particular issue I agree with you, and it doesn't need adding to the "Anything else Danbert?" thread.
Fishing in canals really is a load of pollocks!

That is a shame Dom, when I first conceived the idea for the thread, whilst running along the Rochdale canal last night, i was secretly hoping that i was 'stitching myself up like a kipper' by providing you with more ammunition for the Anything else Danbert thread.

The run involves picking up the Rochdale canal in Middleton coming off at Slattocks and going off road using public bridleways up to Tandle Hill monument. Tandle Hill is about the nearest thing i've got to a hill in my part of North Manchester that doesn't involve getting the car off the drive.

You have to be careful there Danbert as you are in line of sight from the Kirkholt housing estate (bandit country!). They can scramble a bunch of muggers and be on you before you know it

Indeed Alf, I am well acquainted with the Kirkholt rapscallions.

Re: People fishing on the cana
The thing about people who fish on canals is that a lot of them think that that is fishing. I prefer more interesting and inaccessible spots that have to be looked for and approached with extreme care and patience, so as not to spook the fish.

This came from under another bridge, again a pool that probably very few people know exists.

Thought it'd be four piles of bricks down your neck of the woods.

Canals are very bleak places to fish.
Nice little wild Brownie Mr Brightside, on the fly?
