Hello mudclaw, goodbye talon
Oh, now I'm thrown! Mudclaw 300 is out today and then this is thrown at me.
Thanks - I'm back! I'll go and find a pair of 300's then.
BOOM! A new pair of 333s for the winter as they should be going *fairly* cheap now the 300s are out, then onto the 265s next season. The reason I never went for the Mudclaw 275s was the asymmetrical laces, but glad to see they've got rid of them in this design!
So are these an upgrade of the 270/272? My 272s are on their last legs and I need a new pair. At the moment, I can only get the 300s (which I seem to remember were supposedly replacing the 330s and 272s). So do I now wait for these to come out or get the 300s? Decisions, decisions.........
My old grey 270's have been for race use only are these the answer? So its taken about 5 years to in circles to lose 5 grams and level the laces.
Well done inov-8, why not just read the forum in future?
PS the 190's have been great for racing in summer and the Walsh's when I needed the full grip on wet days.
Any buyers have any reviews yet?
I think Pete Bland have them on pre order. I think they're about £85. You'd think if it's a lighter shoe it should cost less, after all you are getting less shoe for your money:wink:
You can pre-order on Wiggle for £81 - saying "early March"
First run in mine this morning.. felt good, noticeably lighter, more flexible and in touch with the ground than the 300's... uppers appear to be very similar construction which, considering my 300's are still going strong knocking on 500 miles, is a good sign for durability.. will keep you posted.
My 300's have almost done 700 miles now and, with next weekend's fellsman kit and shoe check in mind, I ordered another pair from Pete Bland. They just this morning rang me to say they won't have my size in 300's until 6th May.... so I now have a pair of 265's winging my way :). Red knocks spots off of yellow ;)
The 265s are very good. They are square across the heel so feel nice and secure, along with a low heel drop. Only had a short run in them, but they are the best inov8 fell shoes I have ever bought. Expensive but feel well put together and if they wear well, probably worth the high purchase price.
This is the shoe I have waited for love the xtalons but miss the mudclaw grip so this should be the answer, plus there is less drop on these than the xtalons. I already know that I want to buy them from Sportsshoes but this is online only now, I therefore need to try a pair on and then go and by them online but where to do this. Does anyone know which outlet actually physically has them in stock in the west yorks area please.
I would have though the sizing would be similar to previous Mudclaws. I take a 9.5 in Talons and a 9.5 in Mudclaw 285's so I would just order the same size as you take for Talons.
Just checking my 333s to be sure of the size - and find one is 9 and one is 9.5 - and yet they are exactly the same size in looks/feel! Was there was a bit of a mix up putting them back in the boxes after trying them on? - though I try to keep an eye out for that sort of thing.
I might just have to go with that solution although I have always found I seem to take different sizes in different shoes. Its so long since I owned a pair of mudclaws I cant remember what size I had and my talons are a 9 but seem to remember them being more generous than the old 330 which I think was bigger. Hey ho take the plunge if theres nowhere to try them on I can always send the back.
Cheers
Only semi-relevant, but as of 2 weeks ago Up & Running in Headingley seemed to have a wide range of sizes in Mudclaw 300s (I tried all sizes between 6.5 and 8.5 ) and Alpine Outdoors in Hebden Bridge said they were expecting a delivery of inov8, don't know if it included 265s though.
Know what you mean, but aren't they about £80 pretty much everywhere?
It's a real shame that Sportsshoes don't have a shop any more - used to be a no brainer for me because prices were always competitive, plus the ability to try on.
Anyway, "up and running" got my business this time because they provided the means for me to try a few pairs on, so it seemed only fair. Which is not to say I won't be looking for online bargains next time, now I know what size I need
I love them so much I'm seriously considering doing the Lakeland 100 in them, at the risk of trashing them by the end.
I think I had a set of the orange/grey mudclaws. For the first three months they killed my right heel with blisters and put me off inov8's for yonks (almost forever). That said I did eventually get a bit of wear out of them.....

Has anyone got a feel yet for how well the uppers of 265s last compared to 300s? I was happy with the longevity of both pairs of 270 I had, but the uppers of my 272s have disintegrated in no time, with the soles still looking nearly new. I imagine I'd be happy wearing both 265s & 300s, but I could do with getting better value from them than I've had from 272s. Have you got both Stolly?
The 265 turned out to be My all time favorite! I was really surprised to se how well they handle all sort of conditions, from mud to flat road..
