Anyone doing this on sunday? Granted it's a road race but should be fun, last year the course was flooded in places and it was chucking it down which was a barrel of laughs. Goody bag afterwards is top notch as well :p

Yes, i'll be there. It's a big draw for my club and rightly so as it's such a good race. Quite a lot of road but there's some trail as well. The goody bag has in the past has been worth the entry and the effort but that may have suffered in the recession, you never know. Mind you, as fell runners you guys won't understand the concept of a goody bag will you! Have a great run, it's going to pour down as usual...I am using sunday as a sweetner for Guisborough 3 Tops the following week. Really looking forward to that one.
See you there then
Hi Guys
It's a cracking race indeed, and hope it's not as wet as last year, the goody bags are still pretty good and the new t-shirts are pretty cool too:)
Andy, if it's any wetter than last year I'll be wearing flippers! :D
Ha I know, still a very good turn out, must be the bulging goody bag:) really nice setting too:)
I'm on car parking duties, sure got messy last year.
Last year the weather was so bad that I had the radio on all morning expecting the cancellation to come and when it didn't I thought I'd go anyway, it's only up the road...when I got to Ripley the car park was packed and EVERYONE had turned out.....
Whatever the weather.....
Oh yes Fairyfeet, it wasn't going to stop the race:) and it went well considering, have a great run Yorkshire Rob and fairyfeet:)
Yep me and the other half will be there.
Only entered last minute to get back in the swing of things really and thought it looked like not a bad road race. Not raced in any kinda race for a couple of years now. Not expecting much of myself either as just trying to get back to fitness and been laid low with a bug for the last couple of weeks  so just getting round will be a bonus for me right now :o
As for the weather I thought it was looking ok for tomorrow. Cloudy with a chance of a shower nothing more and light winds. It's beautiful today though.
Fingers crossed for a good race for everyone
Had a good race, managed 73 mins which is a huge PB for me so happy with that, how did everyone else get on?
Managed to get round, which was a positive with so little training under my belt and first race in 2 years . ;)
Not sure of time but the girl behind me said that she got 1.28 so I'm 1.27-1.28. Bigger hills than I expected on a road run but I ran every single one, which I was quite chuffed with considering just about everyone around me was walking them (that fell training is paying off)!!
Aim for 1.20 next year :D
It is a mega course for hills, around 1300ft in climbing which is a lot for a road race. The hill at birstwith is mental, but I'm pleased to say I ran it all as well. I managed 1:26 last year so took 13 mins off this time round :)
1.38 for me, taking 3 mins off last year which I was pleased with given the lack of training and general tiredness of body from the outset! Well done everyone. Nice weather today.
I knew I'd be at work this afternoon, so didn't bother entering, but some members of my (recently joined) club competed.

Hi guys
Well done there Yorkshire Rob, Flopsy and other half, Fairyfeet and everyone else who took part today, glad you all had a good race and enjoyed it:)
and yeh mental is a good description of the hill in Birsthwith:) otherwise known as 'The Birsthwith Brute'.
cya
Andy.
Thanks NVRR for a well marshalled race, really well executed as always.
Very well organised.
My first race after 5 weeks on the beer. I reckon I should have chosen a gentler re-introduction. Yorkshire Rob about 70 secs in front.
Oh well, better luck next time :D
This Sunday starting and finishing at Ripley Castle. Probably my favourite road race. Nice country lanes and plenty of hills plus the best goody bag around. Anybody else doing it?
Yes I'm in, 2nd time for me.
3rd time for me, definitely a good 'un. Great atmosphere as well. Hoping for sub 65 this time, but might be a big ask
See you there
That would be some going Rob. My best on a flat 10 is 65 minutes. On this course it's 70 but I think I'll be 2 or 3 minutes slower than that on Sunday. You're right about the atmosphere - it must be the shared pain on those hills. It's also very quaint to finish in the castle courtyard.
Ran it for the first time last year as a tester race. I wanted a sanitised race as my first come back race after a 6 month lay off following surgery.
I didn't run it fast obviously but I suprised myself by really enjoying it. Didn't think I'd enjoy a road race. Tracks, little back country roads, big hills, scenery, friendly and a damn fine goody bag. To top it off we got married at Ripley Castle and so ending in the courtyard there was quite nice for us.
I'm booked in again for this year. Not well at the moment so don't expect a good time but still looking forward to it.
Great time on that course Rob, unlucky on not going sub 65. I ended up not running in the end. I've been struggling to shake off a calf strain and as it seemed to have got worse after running on Thursday I decided not to risk it. Pretty cheesed off after seeing the weather this morning. Must have been a nice run.
Well done Rob. I did 66 min after a steady start. Fantastic weather and love the hills!
Results are on line already!
Had a terrible race with a rubbish time (compared to what I could do). For the second time in two weeks a couple of miles into running I got really poorly and struggled to make it round the route at all. Not sure what's going on there
Still a nice route though and lovely weather yesterday.
Did my first road race for over a year today! Guy Fawkes 10 today from Ripley Castle and up around Birstith, Swincliffe and Hampstwaite (good Yorkshire heartland this). Couldn't really decline seeing as it was on my doorstep and part of my regular training runs .....
Discovered that any pace I had on the road has completely disappeared and I wobbled in around 1:20. Not too disappointed though :) I saw several others doing it who are known to prefer the fells, so I wasn't alone .....
Good to see you and Helen yesterday. I haven't done a road race for 5 years! I really enjoyed it and it wasn't half as scary as I thought it would be. I particularly liked all the twists and turns around the little country roads and also the different terrain. I don't think I would've bothered had it been flat as my pace isn't great either. I'm pleased that I ran it all as I can be a bit lazy sometimes!
Yes, it was nice to see you, you should have come for a cuppa afterwards at Harriers H.Q. - the chilli was lovely. You're right though, if you have to do a 10-mile road race this is one of the more interesting ones and is a definite challenge. You did well to run all the way up the "Birstwith Brute", I can't claim that I did - especially as you witnessed that I didn't! A bit of a shame we had that freezing fog, it's nice scenery thereabouts - it's lovely and clear this morning, Sod's Law! Results are out on UK Results (Jon Schofield). The winner (Jack Simpson - Leeds A.C.) did it in 54-odd minutes, which is fairly unbelievable. I think it might have been a course record.
Sorry I couldn't stay for a cuppa but I had a lift and they wanted to get away fairly swiftly. As for the fog.....I think I may have to do this race again so I can see the lovely views.
Wow, 54 mins - that's incredibly quick for 10 miles. I once ran the Leeds Abbey Dash slower than that!!
I was there too, in the middle of a full blown cold but still managed a credible 67mins. I love this race, it's a belter. Birstwith brute is a fantastic hill and I always enjoy going past people that are clearly not used to that sort of climbing. Jack Simpson's time is insane for that course though. Amazing effort
