Heptonstall Recce Sun 23rd Dec
SUNDAY 23RD DECEMBER; 09.00am; 15miles / 3200 feet / SNOW?
Celebrate the start of the Christmas holiday with a 15 mile trot around Colden Woods, Heptonstall Moor, Blake Dean, Widdop, Walshaw Dean, Greave Height, Hardcastle Craggs, Hebden Water, Shackleton Knoll, Crimsworth Dean, and back to Heptonstall for some soup, beer, and Christmas Pudding.
Same plan as usual; split to fast medium and steady groups depending on numbers, opportunity to bail out at 10 miles - all welcome - more the merrier.
Meet at the White Lion at 8.45 for a 9.00 start; follow this thread for updates. Would be great to see the forumites out in festive mood and what better excuse for a pint of Saltaire (now on at White Lion).

Ah pity...but Helvellyn sounds greatt
There'll be more White Lion recces in Jan Feb (wonder if any of your Helsby membership might like a day out on the moors???)
Had about 15-20 confirms so far so its looking like it could be a cracker (sorry) on 23rd

Maybe - I think I'll be OK for the race itself now, so I may make it a club counter. It's too long for our main fell race series, but I put together a "long trail" series of longer events (14 to 30 miles). May be able to fill a car up, & possibly the same for a recce too.

Great!..and maybe I could reciprocate with a car full of fell runners for the Helsby 4 Villages Half (although I can never get my entry in on time). When is your 2013 edition and how do you get a place?

The 4 Villages has been full for yonks - it's on 20 Jan, the day after the Hebden, & it's all on tarmac. I'm running in the Hebden (& marshalling the 4 Villages).

Ah yes: The Hebden is hard resist, think this clash happens every year. I have done 4 Villages about 5 times before I was a fell runner. Great race (even if it is on tarmac). It'll be the Hebden for me again so I'll see you there.

We the technobots of Heptonstall have created an impressive and rather official looking Facebook page for the race http://www.facebook.com/Heptonstallfellrace This is the best place to keep up to date with news or information relating to recces we are planning in the coming months. Simply follow the FB page by 'liking' and let your club mates know about it if they are interested in doing the race.
Yours technobot.

All set for next week - large numbers confirmed - pudding on order - dont forget beer money

Re: Heptonstall Recce Sun 23rd
You got any slow ones coming along Steve? I'd quite like to come along if you have appropriate running pace group. I'm the sort of pace that if I ran your race I'd be in the last few. I'm better at the drinking bit.

Evening Juicer...you would be very welcome; we are expecting plenty of steady pacers to turn up as quite a few CVFR are coming along as a bit of a club social; that said there will be a fast group for those who normally finish in top 20-25% at races, followed by a medium group made up top 25-50% finishers, and then a steady group for those just looking for trot round. Although the route is 15 miles/ 3200 feet, there is an opportunity to bail out at 10 miles. I would recommend that everyone bring a map/whistle/compass and full body cover as winter conditions and the remote landscape could catch any of us out.
We've put on a few of these events in previous years - great fun and often well attended by forumites from far and wide.
See you outside the White Lion bright and early on Sunday....I'll take the Xmas pudding orders then :-)

I'll be there - either medium or slow group depending how the previous night's party goes.

Re: Heptonstall Recce Sun 23rd
I'm taking the children to a panto on the 23rd. Is there the strong likelihood of further recce runs in the new year?

Oh no there's not!!! Actually I'm sure there will be Joey...
By the way most of the crowd in these "cool" pictures (last week's 3P recce) by Jedi will be out again on 23rd; winter group recces followed by a pub are the way foward. What panto are you off to see?

Re: Heptonstall Recce Sun 23rd
Weather....
Its going to be less wet on Sunday than Saturday and there is possibilty of snow....looks like those who don't run will be spending the weekend in doors or in the shops. Lucky for us fell running gets better the worse the weather
BBC WEATHER Outlook for Friday to Sunday (Yorkshire)Further rain on Friday but becoming drier. The weekend, generally cloudy and windy with more rain expected, heavy at times, and perhaps some snow over the tops of the Pennines. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2647207

Re: Heptonstall Recce Sun 23rd
Off to buy a large quantity of Xmas pudding!
Judging by the messages from CVFR / Toddies plus various forumites from Abbey/Valley Striders/Bingley/K&C/Rossie we'll be needing a beano-style cannon ball of a pudding.

Puddings and mince pies are now at the pub - hot soup being prepared.
Festive scenes of the village tree (cut, transported, errected, and decorated by local fell runners) this is where we all meet at 08.45 on Sunday
You might recognise the guy putting the lights up.......

Re: Heptonstall Recce Sun 23rd
Last minute advice;
Hope you can park at the top of the village beyond the school as parking wardens are lurking
You can leave a bag in the pub - for warm clothes at the end (pub will be open from 08.30)
Expecting 30 or 40 to run -so we will have 3 groups (Steady, Medium, Fast)
Much better weather for Sunday....sunshine....http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2647207
Bring your full body cover map, whistle, compass, hat and gloves (we want all to return safely if anyone ends up running alone)
Santa hats might look good for our photographer!
Free soup, mince pie, Xmas pudding back at the WHITE LION from 12.00...bring some beer money - loads of fine real ales
CALDER VALLEY FELL RUNNERS end of year party (5th Jan) tickets will be on sale (£10)
See you tomorrow!

Dan - we now have a date for the next big recce / soup run - SUNDAY 3rd MARCH - more details to follow (same as usual, all welcome, split to fast medium, steady, Soup back at the pub, probably a 9am start)
