Is only just over a month away now...whos doing it???
Definitely maybe
Maybe definately, maybe not certainly..
Should be there. Ideal sighting run for the even more impressive Pen-Y-Fan/Fan Y Big camping and racing weekend later this summer.
Yes but still a very excellent race in its own right :). See www.cribynrace.org.uk for a flythrough on a Google Earth magic carpet..
I do it but I've got to go on a bloody stag weekend.
Will be away for Pen-y-fan this year too...
Looks like South Wales is out for me this year
Does anyone have details of any campsites or B & B in the area?
Good evening Usually at the back,
Theres a b&b in Brecon which I've stayed at for the Fan-y-Big weekend, called Beacons Guest House Tel:- 01874 623339, which is about £40 a night. There's also a Youth Hostel about 2 miles east of Brecon which I'd imagine is a bit cheaper. There's also a hotel called the Coach Louse near the Beacons GH, but it looked a bit upmarket to me. There's also five or six really good pubs in the town.
Thanks, I'll look into those options
Went for a bit of a recce yesterday, but from the South. Must have looked like I knew what I was doing as I was asked for directions by some walkers:o
Only a nights sleep away now
Buggr it lets give it a go\!
having to miss this, due to injury. Bah!
have a good 'un...

Al.
Well done Al. Cracking day, cracking race. Loved it! I was upset at having missed Moel Eilio yet again but this race more than made up for it. A descent from hell followed by a ascent from somewhere even worse. Never before in the field of human conflict has so much use been made of grassy tussocks to physically haul destroyed bodies up a near vertical slope that went on and on and on and on....but the views at the top were worth every second of agony. And then the fun of going down and back up to Pen Y Fan....oh how we laughed and gambolled along!
Finally, a toe nail shredding (both big ones...count 'em) heel ripping flat out blast for miles and miles with the whole of mid Wales laid out before you.
Sheer bliss and sheer agony all rolled into one. You MUST do this race!
just seen the photos, are there any results out yet?loked like a good turn out.saw one bloke in the top half of the field being pulled up by his dog,is that exeptable??
Brilliant day, thanks to Helen and marshalls etc and yet again Al manages to get the excellent photos on the website before I get home
Hmmmh interesting point Rock regards the dog - didn't realise but clearly the dog is tied to his waist, something to think about in the future if I ever decide to fit a dog into my life!!
Bloody tough race though a cracking route, would make a cracking 'short' in the Brits bar the parking issues?.........contoured descent down to valley before horrific climb up Cribyn was tough whilst the climb up the Cribyn ridge itself was horrific!.....enjoyed though!
Top 7 finished as they were in the photos Rock.....
Thanks everyone who helped out today- too many to name. And thanks to everyone who ran, a really good field. Just been out for a run and finally sunk onto sofa watching Over the Rainbow, while typing up results. Should be on site later tonight. Wheeze, i may have to borrow your post to start a testimonials page! :)
Had about the best day possible - ran a race that I thought was beyond me and did OK and Dundee United won the Scottish Cup!!!
And here's the results!

I'm the clerk of the course and i say leave Pat alone. He only did it as training for his South Wales Traverse and its not like he was in the prizes. His dog was wearing a collar not a harness and any significant pulling force would crush its trachea before it pulled an 11 stone bloke up a hill that steep. And my decision is final :).
Wow that was hard. I can't feel my quads at the mo. brilliant weekend, top course. Cheers Helen,
well Math a tough race, some good runners in front of you,i did this in 2002 but it was in July then.i find it hard to race down south as your legs dont get going till after a bit due to the time spent in the car on the way down. i see that the Davies boys are going for it this year, good to see Tim getting back to form and with Andrew pushing him hard will be good for him if goes for the British champs
Now then, young Tom. A word of advice. The poor South Wales sheep have suffered years of abuse from...well, you know what they say about the preferred partnerrs of young squires in these here parts. So the sight a young lad charging about the hillsides naked from the waist up is likely to upset them even more. So be a good lad and, next time when you race in these here parts, put a ruddy vest on!
If you liked Cribyn you will also enjoy Pen Y Fan. Its even faster but at least the descent does not twist your ankles off your legs!
:eek: That would be a freak show of humungous proportion.....and the sheep would explode!
Is it just me or is anyone else suffering from severe Peroneal DOMS (outer shin pain) in their left leg after that lovely downhill diagonal traverse?
Oooowwww!
I'll be there!!!! Maybe over 18's and under 50's might be a better idea!!!
Shame I missed it this year but not able to do more than 3-4 miles on the flat at the moment. And nice positive photo Wheeze!

If anyone lost a blue Rab Mountain Marathon Shirt 2008, i've got it for them..
Not another bare chest! Where did you find that - or more accurately where did the proud owner decide to start to expose himself (or herself??!!)
Of course Turbo Tom was not the only flasher. R Powell started it quite early on and serial stripper M Blake was semi naked at the prize giving so don't give TT too much of a hard time Wheeze.
Aye, too true WH. Ross, please eat up, yer all skin and bone, man! Almost as skinny as Don!!!!!
Must say, I was truly impressed by the age range in the race from pre-shavers through KOS's to decrepit zimmer pushers....hats off to all of you..us. Fantastic to see us all out there, all mixing it up, giving it hell. Al Tye's pics are a brilliant addition to the race experience as they allow you to appreciate the whole field and what they went through.
Hi
I'm just getting a plug in for my race, the Cribyn, in the Brecon Beacons, Sat 27th April at 1pm:
http://home.cribynrace.org.uk/
It clashes with the Three Peaks, but if you fancy something more low key, it's worth the trip to South Wales. Just don't think it's an easy option, at 5.5m and 3100 feet of ascent it is tough. It's a proper, trad fell race with the entire course on the open fell. Lots of home made cake for everyone, and i'm working on getting a bottle of Cribyn beer for each entrant. No cash prizes any more i'm afraid as it costs me so much to get there from Yorkshire, but £50 for breaking the record. Only £5 to enter so cheaper than the 3 Peaks too :)
If anyone wants to make a weekend of it, a few of us are going to be at Cwm Gydi in camper vans from Friday night for food and banter, all welcome the more the merrier.
