couldn't find much on it's history sorry:p
I have entered Fiensdale Emma. I will be going to Total Fitness, Preston afterwards before staying the night at my son's so can give you a lift if it's any help.
I'd like to do it Swoop but haven't entered yet.
Was going to send a cheque today do you think a note with it will do as oppose to an 'official' form as I can't get one printed:mad:
Are you going to travel from your sons or just come back to his after the race?
:D
I haven't got a map of that area to locate fell foot i.e. plot that grid ref.
Once through chipping village to i turn left or right presuming Longridge is behind me - i'e if I turn right then first left I'm going the right way for the wild boar animal park - yes yes I have kids they like it there ok:D
Not far from Preston Daz!:D have you heard of Preston:eek:
This used to be my favourite race, till they change the route and distance.
That climb up fairsnape was my first ever killer climb in a race.
Yeah the old race was a toughy, I dont know the route for the new race.
Hi guys been browsing for a while but not got round to registering or posting.
The map of the new course can be found on the Bowland website
http://www.bowlandfellrunners.org.uk/.
The old route used to carry on north to a checkpoint at Langdon Castle if memory serves before turning up a nice runnable path over to Holme House Fell. I'd be interested to know why the race has been shortened.
That final checkpoint between Fair Snape and Parlick is the work of sadistic genius!
I'd urge anyone who hasn't visited Bowland or done this race to have a go if they can. It's a surprisingly good part of the world and often overlooked as people follow the crowds to Lakeland.
I heard that there was something about wear on some of the tracks after the english champs held on the course and the organisers were asked to change the route to prevent further damage.
Just been over the course today for a recce. Dry but very windy which meant the 'run' from CP3 & 4 to CP5 (Fiendsdale Head) was very slow indeed. The route from CP8 to CP9 (just before the last climb) is not easy if you don't like loose rocks in the grass. Best bet is to head straight down to the wall corner then bee line to CP9. Then there's the shortish but steep climb to the top before a superb grassy descent to the finish. It's a tough 7 miles.
I'm in!!
My last minute entry neatly (?) scrawled out by hand has been accepted:D
http://www.bowlandfellrunners.org.uk..._list_2007.pdf
will i need to know the area or as I'll be a back runner is the course going to let me see people in the distance:confused:
Had a look at the new route on the pdf but doesn't mean a great deal as not done it before although I 'do' now know how to read the map at least:o
Depends on the weather!!
The CPs are in obvious places, next to ladder stiles, sheep pens, summits etc
Use your navigation skills and you will be OK, the paths are generally obvious or you can follow fence lines.
The climbs are tough and if the wind is as strong and cold as it has been the last couple of days dress up warm!
Looks as though we could slide down here emmilou!:D
Attachment 198
There are 9 CP's:-
CP7 is @ Paddy's Pole on the summit of Fairsnape Fell
CP8 is @ the NW base of Parlick Pike - easy to miss, several did last year, despite myself and a colleague wearing bright flourescent cags which were visible from the ridge path, on a beatiful, clear sunny day.
CP9 is @ Parlick Pike summit.
If it pans out the same as last year, I should be back @ CP8 this year.
To be quite honest, some of you on this thread have got me really worried. Andy has given you a NGR for the start and registration, and you don't appear to be coping with that and locating it on the map in the comfort of your own homes! I've run this race in previous years, in conditions that were even worse than what we experienced at Edale, last w/e, where I helped to escort a collapsed / seriously hypothermic competitor off the moors. I do not really want to repeat that trauma this Saturday, if at all possible. I apologise if I sound like 'The Fell Fascist', but fell running at this season of the year can be a matter of life and death.
Don't worry - I have the GR's from the website and my map and I DO know which way to hold it :D - just like to be prepared as haven't run round the area or managed to go for a recce. Thanks for the checkpoint info.
If I can get round 12 miles of Winter Hill on a shocking day in the clagg i'm sure it will be ok and won't need a stretcher:eek:
just don't fall at the end, or where you trying to get maximum mud coverage???
aarrhhh going for that 'authentic' fell runner look!
what happened last night???
