Just a gentle reminder to put this new race in your calendar:)
It promises to be a grand day out with prize giving in the Festival Marquee, free food to all runners and locally hand reared ale (not free:().
It would be fantastic to see some familiar faces there!!

When do we lock horns again? I did Noonstones again and am doing the Downfall, Anniversary Waltz, Wasdale, Langdale and Sedbergh, amongst others. What about you?

I'm guessing it climbs up, erm, Pott Shrigley/ Back of Lyme Park hill though my geography of the area is as cloudy as the misty hills:)

Looks like it starts on Middlewood way and uses the canal towpath for a few sections too. Couple of sections I'm not too familiar with but it looks like more of a sturdy trail shoe rather than fell runners. I'm looking forward to it.

looks a great new route, and as I can't make Rainow this year, this'll do nicely for getting me up onto Kerridge/White Nancy :cool:
This is a new race, which visits the 3 summits of Kerridge Hill, White Nancy and Nab Head. Below is a link to a map of the route.

It starts at 2pm on Saturday (9th May), but please turn up in plenty of time as registration is likely to be in the festival beer tent on the recreation ground next to the Vale Inn, and there is a short walk to the start on the viaduct. Car parking at the Vale may also be limited, so if people can use the car park by the Arts Centre or behind the library that would help.

Good course that Andy. Tougher than I expected but thoroughly enjoyable. Will the results be posted anywhere ? I forgot to turn my watch off !:o

Great race with a fast flat start and long downhill finish...the middle bit was tough though.

Enjoyed yesterday but couldn't quite get Marvin back on the run in - another quarter of a mile maybe? Just managed to beat Blue Haywood - a very polite young lady who thanked me for holding the kissing gates open for her - she didn't give me a kiss though!
Great event and well organised by Andy - good to see lots of faces from the past. Craig Harwood took a leaf out of Dave Woodhead's book by standing on a table to announce the winners. I used to run these hills regularly when we lived in Kerridge but now I'm in North Wales they don't seem quite as steep somehow!
That race was a belter!!:D
Good turnout and although my preparation was hardly text book, I really enjoyed it. Funnily enough, the tea at the end was fantastic.
I know what you mean by the diagonal ascent of White Nancy Daz... my ankles really suffered on that... I think you probably had a good 5 minutes on me by the end.

A total of 130 runners, with a lot of local and unattached and all but 2 finished. The results should be posted up today on the FRA results page, Macc Harriers site and Bollington Festival site.
Apologies that the food did not arrive faster, and that there was little in the way of water at the finish. Blue also caught us on the hop with the prizes (a non drinking runner!), so we are offering her a kit voucher.
This was an organisational first for me, so thanks for bearing with it all. The intention is to make this an annual event, and next year the organisation should be a lot smoother.
Registration for the race will now take place at the Bollington Brewery just up the road from the Vale Inn (Adlington Rd.) There will be hot food, tea and beer served to all runners:) The Brewery will be open all evening serving real ales and there will be a lamb or hog roast and maybe some live music!!
Also just in case it helps give you a 'pass' there is also a Family Picnic day taking place on the rec. opposite - Bouncy castle, slides, facepainting and organized ball games. Fun starts at 11.
Oh, and Camp4 will be providing a shop at the Brewery! See ya there:)

Hi Shuffler,
The Bollington Festival 3 Peaks Race was inaugurated last year at the 2009 Bollington Festival and we decided to run the event every year as a festival fundraiser.
However, the Festival itself is only staged every 4 years or so. The next Festival will be in 2014 to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Festival. Hope this helps.

There has been a slight route change near to the start of the race this year, due to the canal towpath being closed and fenced off for repairs. So runners will stay on the Middlewood way from the start line until Tinkers Clough - where there is a nice woodland path which rejoins the previous route at the point where you left the canal. There is another slight route change on the track beyond this point to avoid the narrow kissing gate. But these points will be well indicated or marshalled and nobody should get lost.
Registration is on the day. For those with familes there is a 'family fun day' on the Recreation Ground where the race finishes, and for those without there is a Brewery open day (and evening) at the Registration and prize giving venue.

So the footpath through Tinkers Clough is officially open again. That's good news - last time I went through there, it was a bit of an obstacle course.
As you might have guessed, I have a route, but it's last year's. Unfortunately I can't do it this year - Sailing Club duty on Saturday and a big training run on Snowdon on Sunday.Quote:

A cracking little canter. Well done to the organisers and the Bollington Brewery. Chilled atmosphere and a beer and a bacon buttie at the finish - result :D
Really enjoyed this race, it was my second fell race and was tough but good. Everyone was really friendly, would definitely do it next year.
I was wondering if anyone knows who was taking photos at the race? I saw a few photographers on the course but just wondered where we can see their photos?
Oh and I was very impressed that the free food included veggie burgers!!

Just a reminder that this Saturday (14th, 2pm) is the third Bollington Festival 3 Peaks Fell race, a week later this year at the request of our brewery sponsors. At just under 6 miles, it is not quite as tough as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, but some varied terrain and there is beer (brewed specially for the race) and a barbeque included in the entry price.
