Marks BG 19/20th July

After straining my calf muscle in training last week :angry: i made the decision last weekend to call my BG attempt off this weekend and reschedule it for Friday 19/20th July starting at 7PM in a clockwise direction. It was a hard decision to make after months of hard training, but as everyone has said to me it was the right thing to do, and as we all know you need to be standing outside Moot Hall feeling 100% before the off. So everyone that is involved in my BG attempt should of recieved a email with my schedule:thumbup:

That's bad luck mark but sounds like a good decision to postpone. Don't rush back from the injury and good luck

Thanks mate its better to play it safe. By letting the injury mend i will come back stronger and did not want to risk doing any more damage to the calf which would mean delaying the attempt even longer.

good decision mark you will feel gutted now but after the injury has sorted itself out and you have had some extra time out you will fly round
I was contemplating this weekend as well but hav,nt sorted as yet

Cheers Roy yes i am gutted but life goes on as they say. I thought with over 30 years of running experience behind me i would listen to my body for a change instead of my head. Hope that you are going okay again.

It's in the diary. A hard decision, but I'm sure the right one. The weather should be a lot better too!

Thanks Simon and Jack for another great day out yesterday on the fells and really looking forward to my attempt now. As you said Simon I should of had a couple of rocks in my rucksack to slow me down for the rest of the day after a 48 min climb upClough Head:wink: It was also nice to see Steve Angus finish his amazing sub 20 hrs BG round:thumbup:

Excellent news Mark sounds like you are right back on track. Just need to slow you down when you're doing my leg 3 in a couple of weeks ;-)!

Mark arrived Threlkeld. leg 1 3:41.
Just having toast and then off to Dunmail for leg 3 support with Toast!
What sort of hour is this?

Mark went through dunmail 15 mins up in perfect weather and eating well and in good form Richard was in same time and looked to be going well too looking a lovely morning to be on hills so alls looking well for them both :)

Just got in from work, its lovely and cool here! They'd better make the best of it!! Good luck both!

I'll leave it to Mark to go through the gory details but...
He stopped at Beckhead while on schedule; he could barely walk as both balls (of his feet) were badly swollen.
A brave and up to that point succeeding attempt (if you get my drift).

Hi martyn, unfortunately mark had to bail at bottom of gable with sore feet, he was having bother with them and having trouble standing on them. Shame as he was going well and on schedule with perfect weather, sunny with a nice breeze and over cast. A good day was had by all though and a few lessons learnt with everyone down ok so a cracking day out I'm sure he'll give more detail in due course.

Sorry to hear this, it sounded like all was going really well.

Mark - courage mate, that was a bloody brave attempt and you'll be back for another go I'm sure.

I assume the heat and sweat was a major contribution to that problem? bad luck Mark.

Wearing mudclaws all way round I think did it for him. And yes all was going to plan, had a bit of a low in wasdale came through it and was exactly where he should've been then the feet gave way , as said the heat would've contributed .
