I ran the first race in 1999 but was one of those who missed the first stile onto the fell :eek: (was actually 4th at the end of the uphill road section) so need to make amends for that.

:D I was in the following pack that year. Now I would've shouted you's back, really I would, but you and Jason H from Ilkley and a couple of others as I recall were so far ahead you didn't hear me and I was puffed trying to keep up with you lot :o . T'was fun to be 3rd in the race at that stage though...:DQuote:

I guess I was technically 1st for a few seconds just before the stile:D. I actually heard all the kerfuffle behind me but for some reason decided to try and shout Jason and the other 2 back as opposed to turning round and getting on with the race. Mind you I surprised a couple of regularly slower club-mates by overtaking them half way across the fell section having left them well behind from the start.Quote:

A good race today despite the hailstorm soon after the start, and my calf cramping as we turned into the home straight -its not tightened up too much on the drive home so hopefully ok in a day or so.
Finished 47th (out of 112) in 62.49-not sure winning time but vets 1st three - Mark Aspinall, Richard Pattinson, Steve Webb.
Had brief chat to Leeds Rhino -how are the shoes?:eek: Also think I spotted Gaz in the results a few places ahead me.
Yes, I made it there (but wish I hadn't) - didn't have a good run, but yesterdays 12 mile training run and a few too many vodka's last night didn't help.
Thanks to the organisers, good route, well marked and marshalled pitty about the weather. What a long run in on the track/road and also had a calf problem. Will be back to do it again.

Hi Multi T , my shoes were officially retired after the race and deposited in the nearest bin :( get my new inov-8 's broken in now.
You had a good race, I was a bit tired after doing Dodd Fell and then cycling 20-odd mile to this race. 71 mins I took.
Its a good race,a bit miffed getting stuck at the stile for over a minute,plenty of dodging and weaving to do over the limestone outcrops, and then a fast second half of the race. 4th time I've done Austwick
I must admit to being a lot fitter (well until the calf played up:( !!) than when I finished behind you at Meanwood and also tend to do a lot better on the faster (non-technical) courses.Quote:

Really enjoyed the race. Some spectacular scenery - you can't have too many erratics, I always say; a very fast descent to the farm at CP 5; and all topped off by a road race at the end. :eek:
Crikey, it was hot though. I'm still rehydrating - onto my second gallon now. :)

From what I recall:
Start on the main street, heading northeast out of the village, road climb out up Townhead Lane, left onto Thwaite Lane then amost immediately right onto the fell, across the limestone (Norber etc) roughly N/NW until eventually hit the PPP route NW of Sulber Nick, short section along here then back via Crummackdale, Crummack Lane, Townhead Lane for the fast downhill road finish.

I have unfinished business with this race, went wrong the first year it was held (when I was still a decent ascender:cool:) myself and first 4 runners missed the turn onto the fell (been marshalled since)then in 2007 pulled a calf muscle about 500m from the finish:(.
That said I'm undecided between this & Ilkley Trail race (closer to home but pricier) on the Sunday.
It's quite trail-ish with a long stretch of undulating road towards the end. However, there's a good atmosphere and I really enjoyed it last year.
It's part of the village fete and so the centre of town is closed to traffic. You park on the grass verge by the lane leading from the A65, and it can be a bit of a walk so allow time or turn up at registration already changed and ready to go.
Thanks for that. I like this area for running so hoping to get the half night off to attend. Off for 9 days now so should get a bit of training/racing in :D
The A65 can be a nightmare cos of Appleby Fair. Horse and carts etc

Was running the Settle Saunter round there on Saturday, about 27 miles the Garmin wearers were saying, very beautiful. The Feizor and Oxenber woods are currently spectacular with flowers.
