Is anyone else doing this race?

Does anyone know what route it takes?

Through the village, up the Ribblehead road a bit then right onto the big path to the top via Crina Bottom. Back the same way but into the back of the show field without going through the village centre. I suppose a map is compulsory with it being an AM but you really don't need one.

Be prepared for the steep grass banking going back down into the showground - I have seen more than a few people take a tumble down there due to rubber legs - quite fun to watch though :D

I guessed the route would be quite straighforward but as David says a map will be required

This was my third ever fell race last year and was fantastic.

I'm in Scotland this weekend, otherwise I'd definitely be there.

What is the forecast. I am darn sarf this week so not sure what is has been doing in N Yorks. (very wet I guess).

I'll be there for my 17th Ingleborough - I would just like to be able to get under the hour mark - but suspect it will never happen!

After having driven through Gloucstershire last night where there were abandoned vehicles everywhere and numerous closed roads I am hoping that there are no problems on the A65. I expect it to be wet but that might be easier than last years's excessive heat.

Great fun! Hard on the way up and great fun on the way down. Thought a shorter race would be easy after the Saunders but really was not. Ended up about 1hr 10mins I think.

Ran up ingleborough in an adventure race a couple of weeks back in middle of the night. Found it easier in the pitch black to go up yet prefer to see when flying down the side ;)

Realise it may be time for me to join a club to improve further. Too much walking on the way up for my liking.

Wish I had enjoyed it as much. After 3 minutes my hams were killing me and I jacked in after 10. Very lonely walk back to the start. Well hacked off

JB - sorry to hear that you had to drop out, hope legs soon recover.

I thought it was tough and got passed by loads of people near the top but made up more on the descent.

Who was it that fell over in the gateway at the start, could have been nasty, I hope he wasn't hurt.

Well he lost a square inch of skin off his right knee and collected so much gravel in it that three hours later he was at Otley Hospital having it removed, was started on antibiotics, etc.

On the other hand he did complete the race in 64 min or something and, after all, Vinokourov has had it worse.

GB - did not know it was you, it looked nasty when we were all bunched together, must have shaken you. I think you were parked near us, by the T junction down the road, your car had gone by the time we got back.

Hope you have a swift recovery.

I went straight through the finish without stopping to my car to get home and hospital...

I had not run Ingleborough since 1994 and whilst taking a tumble is part of fellrunning, to fall on the "road section"..!!!

I don't think its that at all. Ingleton itself doesn't suffer from that as far as I can see and all the new houses there are at the affordable end of the scale. The trouble with Galas here and abouts is that they are difficult to arrange and not so much appreciated as they maybe once were - Skipton Gala (which doesn't have a fell race) is basically a big procession through the town, a fete and showground, a big funfair and fireworks at night. The procession is the bit thats getting really stale - a few marching bands, a gala queen, some tractors, very few proper floats and an endless number of cars advertising car dealerships. Generally the fete and show goes fine but, if you get bad weather, they can be complete disasters too.

Either way I'd imagine that the fell race itself will survive even if the Gala doesn't.

Rather than post a new thread, thought I would pick up on last year's again!

I'm at this one at the weekend. Never done this race before and don't know the route - although I've seen the map on an earlier post and it looks straight forward, but my daughter is in the FRA U16 race all being well and so I'll be having a go, and looking forward to it.

Looks like the weather may turn in our favour as well by Saturday.

Great little race this WP, up through the village and then up through Crina bottom and to the trig and back. You re-enter the showfield from the East side and there is a steep grassy bank of about 12' down onto the field that catches rubber legs out, you'll see a few buckle there! If you have time try the Masons Arms at Thornton In Lonsdale just 1 mile from Ingleton - amazing variety of ales on draft and not bad food either, dates back to the 12th century I believe, worth a visit whilst your'e up there. Enjoy.

It's the Marton Arms and I've had a few jars there in the past!

Feet in the clowclaps - -dont worry the gala commitee were just trying to generate more support and help. even if it was cancelled the race would of been run anyway:)

Bog trotter - just follow the track up but bare left and come of the side on the way down its quicker and you dont meet the rest coming up the steps:eek:

Wp - Dont worry your daughter cant beat you on this one they run seperately to seniors and turn round at Crina Bottom;)

Ady - dont spoil the fun by warning everyone about the banking it should be fun after the constant rain weve had today. p.s its not as steep if you bare left;)

As for the weather forecast, was told it was going to be a good weekend, but i've heard that before!! Just enjoy

When you come out after a few scoops the sign looks like the 'Mason Arms'. that's my excuse anyway :).

Count me in, I'll be there. I love that 4 mile climb (not), but the descent to Crina Bottom is superb.

Might give the Marton Arms a try afterwards ~ must be one of the few pubs I've never been in. Thanks for the extra info Ady & WP.

I used to go up there and do a double header in years gone by - Marton Arms then Hill Inn.
Some cracking nights.

Just back - rain kept off and a good day for the race.

Purists would say that it's not a real fell race (and some did) as there's a lot of running on gravel track, but it's my sort of race - great descent, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fish n Chips in the Village afterwards - couldn't stretch to a pint at the Marton Arms though - wife and kids in tow.

Rubbish. A purist would say it's a true traditional English fell race up and down the local hill from the village gala without any of that navigation nonsense.

And Rivi Pike is touted as a classic and contains loads of tarmac and not very much fell - go figure.

I agree - the tightness in my legs today tells me that was a 100% fell race
