Everyone will need a copy of the Calderdale Way Guide book.
Cheers Pike
Its also marked on the OL21 South Pennines.
Any chance of and Alty team Swoop?
which teams are entered so far
Hot off the press, new for 2007:
Leg 2:
You must walk through the riding stables. A marshal will be here taking numbers and any team seen running through here will be given a 5 minute time penalty.
Leg 6:
From Southowram, go down West Lane and Change Lane as normal, but do not follow the signposted Calderdale Way halfway down Change Lane (which goes left through the fields at Exley) but keep on the road all the way down past the school on your left to the junction. Turn left into Backhold Lane, then first right down Exley Bank (steep cobbled road) to the main road. Then continue as before, i.e. cross Jubilee Road, then go right through gap in the wall, etc.
From Halifax Harriers...
Almost 70 entries have now been registered for theCalderdale Way Relay 2007.
100 teams is the absolute limit - without exception.
In order to avoid disappointment, check with your secretary / team leader to ensure your club has been entered.
Team leaders have been sent an information pack along with entry confirmation, containing explicit instructions regarding rules, kit requirements, leg cut offs and route changes, etc.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ALL GET A COPY OF THESE FROM HIM/HER.
After complaints from locals and land owners, there are some very drastic route changes this year, especially towards the end of leg 6 where the route will leave the Calderdale Way for a large section after Southowram.
These are highlighted in the information pack sent to team leaders and will also be posted on the website at www.halifaxharriers.co.uk.
Have a great day out with Halifax Harriers
Does anyone have working links to marked-up maps for each leg?
Last year the Horwich site had excellent maps but the links no longer work.
we had to walk through the stables last year on leg 2
I suppose the race walking rules might come in useful then?
"Race walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg must be straightened (ie not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until in the vertical position"
Translated, this means that contact must be maintained at all times (the difference between walking and running).
There was a similar situation at the World Masters event in Switzerland in 2006. A footbridge was subject to a similar walking only rule - a similar length too to the stables on leg 2.
They did make you walk over the bridge, at a normal walking pace so 'race walking' wouldn't have been allowed. I suggest if the rule says you walk then you should walk.
Be careful with those Pike maps!!!
you know what happened last year!
don't say you weren't warned!

Should be between Bingley and Stainland then.
They both rested last wekend!:D
Filling them is no problem Pike, but I ran a fell grand prix for Stainland and only 5 people completed the 5 out of a possible 12 races to qualify.
Like Swoop point out we could not raise a team for the relay's and Mrs Stagger and myself would have been one third of it.
I think 7 is too many and would support a limit per club even though it my club with 7.
May be all runners should have completed 2 fell races in the year before they can run in the event.
Also maybe for every team entered by a club a marshall should be sent to Hx Harriers to help out in the day. No marshall and the team can't run.
Well thats mine moan over for tonight.
Stagger, not sure how this could be policed in terms of other big events but a great idea
Glad to hear it, given your £336 outlay on entries!
Well you only need Mrs Stagger, yourself, and 82 other injury free athletes for this one! My guess is that there will be fewer parking problems this year.Quote:

Good ideas regarding the club limits and marshalls; I think Halifax Harriers already have a lot of volunteer helpers from outside the club, but it's still a massive undertaking I'm sure.
Team 24 - Heptonstall Hurriers
Can't visualise anyone 'hurrying' round the CWR!
Never under estimate the power of team 55!
Does anyone know if the descent from Stoodley Pike will be flagged or can we go either way down?
Last year many teams followed the same route as was flagged the year before and lost time as a result, apparently the route wasn't compulsory last year.
Again this year it is not mentioned that the route will be flagged, therefore I suggest you make your own way down, Boghobbit.Quote:

Any predictions on the results?
Here we go.
Mens:- Bingley or Dark Peak
Ladies:- Bingley
Mixed:- Salford or Stainland
Is RR team captain for Salford mixed?
PS I see there are 120 teams this year instead of the usual 100.
