Anyone done this before - it's in it's 25th year so some of you might:confused:
Any tips, other than it's a LONG way!
Anyone else signing up for it?:D

I've been challenged to do it.
I think Sarah's doing it, I probably won't.
I missed the start as I was having a crap, so started 10 minutes late, caught up with two old guys who said they had done it before so settled into a jog with them, half an hour later stumbling through a forest they admitted that they ALWAYS get lost, so watch out for them.
In the end we did it 'offiicially' in 9:19, - crap = 9:09.
Well organised, good food, great atmosphere. Be careful of the nav you can get a bit lost. Some of the walkers can be quite competitive and won't help you if you ask which way, or call you back if they see you go wrong. The runners were far friendlier on the whole.
Good event.
Lol! They were very undescript, very typical old fell runner looking which doesn't narrow it down!
I'm fairly sure we also paid with a rubber cheque last time due to poverty and living right on the edge of the bank balance so I think we need to reimburse before Sarah or I can enter. Around that time a number of them were bouncing so it was likely it did.
We set off on the early start, it was dark for the first hour or so, but meant we finished in the light.
Good luck, a great ultra.
There's many good scottish ultras too if you fancy it. I reckon one of the best is the Devil O The Highlands (in August I think next year), 43 miles, along the WHW from Tyndrum to Fort William, the HIghland Fling (in April) is also good but at 53 miles and roiugher terrain is a good 1.5-2 hrs longer.
The scottish ultras take some beating, but the food on the RR is second to none. We literally ate our way around the course.
Thanks Iain, just checked the site and although it states walkers 6am start and runners 7am this 'is not cast in stone' so i may well opt for a headtorch 6am start and a space on the floor of the hall/shed?!!
Sounds like the run may keep delayed due to the generous refuelling staions!
Like the sound of next August in Scotland I'll keep it in mind!:D
Here's the race.

10 minutes  That's a long crap ;)
A few pages of a book, slightly reduced duration due to race start time having passed. 15 - 20 minutes is a leisurely Sunday morning, generally though a full chapter is too long.
hi
i'm thinking of it , some bloke i met from rotherham club was trying the hard sell on me and my mate yesterday on hp 40. sounds good and not a lot of road. sounds like a laugth and planning to stop over on the floor too if we end up on it and you cant beat getting lost by the light of a headtorch;)
may be see some of you there.
I have had confirmation not kipping on the floor though, i will be kipping in my van on the car park see you there.
Yep getting lost in the light of a headtorch is kinder fun and it also seems a little surreal in the middle of some muddy field rather than on a suumit of a hill, gee this is a fun event roll on i say:D.
Any other takers after all it could just be a little more special this year as it is the 25 running of it
sounds like i might have already been volunteered. hope it's a big floor!
oh did i forget to mention your running it with me MR RANGER . bring your sleeping bag an torch wont you........:D
Looks like we could have a FRA team for this;)
Get your entry in and give yourself an incentive to train through those dark cold few weeks until December you will love it.
See you there:D
Am seriously considering it, as I can't be bothered with the LMH. If I do go it will be very much as a 'get round and enjoy it' event and nothing serious. Be good if a few of us could meet up, but I doubt I will decide before end Oct.
Is this a run/walk kind of thing.
It's looking like a plans coming together - shall we do a roll call;)
LMH is the Long Mynd Hike. It is 50 miles, part of the Montrail series and will help you get an entry into the Tour du Mont Blanc race in 2008.
It's a great race. Much more than half of it is off road, but there are some road sections too. One of the great things about it is that it will get you into a very beautiful part of the world that most people don't really know about.
I've got entry 439 and the entry is limited to 450 - it suggests that anyone who wants to do it should get an entry in ASAP. They were over-subscribed last year.
why have i just printed off the entry form
well i tried for 4 minutes to enter electronically but im a man :( and ive got fed up so im just gonna do the usual and nick 2x envelopes and stamps and post it
How much ascent is there on this run?
Im interested in having a long day out but dont want to treat it as a race and bust a gut and need weeks of recovery afterwards.
Is there food stops for runners and can I have a good few minutes at each. Without the worry of being timed out.
okay ill get my cheque off,
I know emmi's sticking together. She said she would run three shires with me.
She ate all my food and sodded off:eek:
It's very much a relaxed atmosphere, very christmassy feeling. It's a walkers event as well so you won't be timed out. We started in the early start.
Re Height gain, not much, well no big hills worth worrying about, slightly undulating but on the whole pretty flat. far more x-country than I imagined, though I'd imagine that in a wet year some of the fields would be hard work, it was a lovely crisp sunny winters day when we did it and we finished just as it went dark.
Great race. My wife is doing it if her knee is OK which it seems to be at the moment, it stood up to the Peris so a good test, if I have no game I may end up having a run but doubt I'll be there.
Oh try and get hold of the map before hand. It's a sort of sketch/instructions sheet so quite confusing, but once you've adjusted to it its easy to use and really helpful. Just takes a while.
iain do you think this would be a good training kickstart for a BG attempt next year
im currently up to 50miles a week again but runs only up to about 2 1/2 hrs
50 miles all in one,your nut's daz :p
well - they were obviously rocket fuel Jamie - you should try some!!!:p
I like chillies!
Stop worrying J - it's a gentle 50 mile plod round Yorkshire somewhere - Rotherham is in yorkshire isn't it:rolleyes: Doubt anyone will be racing it:eek:
We'll all tie bits of string to one another then we don't get lost!
Oh ans Iain i had an email from the organiser it seems that all runners will be going at 7 as oppose to being given the option of the 6am start with the walkers - just thought I'd let you know
The maps etc are on the website.
Best start baking now then
Best get my entry of then
