Flower Scar Fell Race 2022 - New Route for 2022!

Flower Scar Fell Race is due to go ahead on Saturday 19th February at 11:15am (junior races from 10am) but there are some late changes that I’ve needed to implement.

Unfortunately, due to environmental issues and fallen trees in the forest area on the normal route, I’ve had to re-route the race to avoid this area. However, I’ve checked it out and I think it still makes for a great course. Due to the proximity to the race date now, I’ve decided that I will simply flag the entire course this year rather than the usual navigational section on Todmorden Moor. If this has to become the normal route for future years then I will re-introduce the nav section from 2023 but for simplicity I’ll keep it flagged this year.

I will also be adding a 30 minute early start option for runners who would expect to be in the bottom 20% of the field to give everyone ample chance to make the 1:15pm cut off at checkpoint 6. I will update the race page on the FRA site and the Todmorden Harriers website ASAP.

Full FRA Kit will be required for this race. Despite this race now being fully flagged, you will need to be able to navigate off the hill if you divert from the course, so a map and compass are compulsary and I will NOT be accepting a buff as a hat. No Kit, No Run, No Exceptions!

bollocks. yeah its 19th haha. thanks for pointing that out.

i spotted another error, the cut off should be 1:15pm, not 1:45pm (2 hour cut off).

Is Flower Scar still EOD? I'm not used to EOD these days, it's like a story that's too good to be true.

Yes, although i'm starting to regret this decision after finding out its in at least 3-4 different club's championships and a 3 peaks qualifier haha.

XC weather is forecasting 10cm of snow, I wanted to do this one but if that lot lands I might not get back over Wadsworth

Anyone go? Was it fun? The heavens let go at about midday in North Leeds, I nearly got stuck trying to get my shopping done, massive fishtail going up Lister Hill in Horsforth. I'd never have got back from Tod.

Like Mr B I really appreciate races like this that are still entry on the day and just a fiver. Too many races have changed from that.

Just spoke to the RO, EOD is still on. They have 150 pre entered and 220 dibbers.

Thanks to Tod for todays event, a classic pennine yomp with plenty of stodge around. I decided on a steady start and to just wind the pace up as the miles ticked by, my bottle fell out on the first descent which pissed me off and got me swearing before i'd hardly got into my stride. This keeps happening as the elastic has gone on the pouch. I got going nicely from CP3 onwards and caught/dropped quite a few groups, but the final 500' climb finished me off, i hadn't really noticed it on the map and lost a bit of time. Allegedly some went wrong on the run in and i bet i can guess where because i nearly went wrong there too. I was a bit surprised at 33rd, i was expecting to be around 60, i found a number of good/shorter lines on the way down to CP6, that leg and the one before it will probably look strong on the splits. The run in doesn't really favour me, it doesn't finish on a good enough descent, but the pennines are often like that

Sounds like it all went well by all accounts. Looks like Bob reverted it back to the original route which is good. Much less biblical weather than last year. Unfortunately I couldn't make it down to help out but glad to hear it all went well

I'm pleased with my downhill splits i think, i'd have been in with a shout for 1st CP1-2 if i hadn't have dropped my bottle and had to go back for it, that would have been a red letter day!

I'm looking forward to visiting Todmorden for this years first Champs race.

A little disappointed not to see Mr B on the start list, as having no time for a recce, my race strategy was to try to hang onto his coattails for a nav free guided tour of the best lines!

Sharpish probably won't happen. I've been told the way i move is predisposing me to a gamut of injuries, my biomechanics are way off and it's straining everything as it all tries to compensate. In order to get over this the neuronets i use to run need to become redundant and new ones developed and made primary; it's about as bad as it gets as far as a prognosis for recovery goes, reconstructing a shattered femur would be a walk in the park beside this.

Chiropractor. He's one of my get-out-of-the-shit guys who i lean on for answers when i can't self-manage something; he is a far better musculoskeletal specialist than his job title suggests. Different people in my little black book of get-out-of-the-shit guys all approach a dysfunction in a different way, the Chiropractor looks at the potential for chains of problems trickling down from my bad back, and tries to connect any dots. The physio is predisposed to looking at things in isolation, and the Podiatrist starts at the feet and works upwards.

Things are beginning to release a bit now, all the muscle tension is reducing as a result of me not running and problem areas have begun to reveal themselves. Last night he confirmed that my Piriformis has shortened and that it is permanently holding my pelvis out of alignment, causing bursitis and excess loading down my ITB. Everything has to be reset to its correct length and condition of health, then i begin again.

Thanks Travs but it was a tough race with a lot of mud and bog. I didn't feel that I was having a good run and was surprised when my SportIdent printout on the finish line told me otherwise.

A great event put on by Todmorden Harriers and I look forward to returning for one of their other races.
