Looks like I may have no game this weekend, so looked at doing this.
Any details?
Looked around and can see nothing, where is it from?
All I know is 11 am start?
Cheers

For some reason it's not listed in the online race calendar although it is in the printed calendar. It's at Kettlewell in Wharfedale GR 975726, start time 11.00 for women, 12.00 for men. It's a 4 mile out and back blast, all runnable if you're fit.
Cheers David, plenty of info there. Suprised there was so little available on line to say it's a British Champs race?
Looks a possibility,
Also is there any social do on afterwards as it's the final race?
Cheers
Iain
I've not heard of anything. The prizegiving is usually in the King's Head. It's organised by PeeJay so you could pm him if you want need more info.
The route is dead simple. It just follows the footpath from the campsite at 975726 to the summit and back via Hag Dike. Flat out all the way and it hurts :D.
"Also is there any social do on afterwards as it's the final race?"
Don't forget it is the IHR the next day, so a lot of people will be staying sober 'til the Sunday night.
Iain, have Eryri not got a mens team in the IHR?
Not that I know of. I was thinking of making a weekend of it but I'll have the dogs with me. As it's a separate womens and men's race it's fine for them to come along, plan was then to do something maybe around Malham next day.
Bollox!
Have a cup game so that's why the fixture was free. So no race now.
Thanks for the info anyway
Cheers

Saturday are Sunday?
I ran up Great Whernside last weekend from Kettlewell just to stretch my legs. Another runner ran past me and asked if I was training for the race, had no idea I was on a race route at the time. By the time I wheezed out 'No, I'm just out for a gentle run' he had disappeared off into the distance
For anyone doing the race it's a bit boggy after Hag Dike.
Great race today, fantastic weather saw quite a few people running topless. Bit of a lungbuster going up, and the descent seemed to be over rather too quickly but all very enjoyable so thanks to the organisers and marshalls. Wins for Simon Bailey and Candice Leah both breaking course records, with P&B (men) and Bingley (women) winning team prizes.
Ilkley Gazette/ Wharfedale & Airedale Observer 12 October 2007
"THIS is living" was the cry heard as one fellrunner surged past a small group on the sublime descent from Great Whernside towards Kettlewell last Saturday.
The Great Whernside race, conceived by Pete Jebb, is one of the great short fell races. The route is virtually free from technicalities and so the climb is a pure power charge and the glorious, glorious descent of 1500 feet in a couple of miles is the acme of fell running descents. This fell race is as close to perfection as it gets.
Last Saturday's race was both an English and British Championship counter but because the weekend also included the Langdale Horseshoe and the Ian Hodgson Relay hoi polloi stayed away to leave the event clear for those seeking championship points and to break records as Simon Bailey (Mercia) in 28.38 (174 finishers) and Candice Leah (CLM) in 36.10 (73 finishers) did.
(edit)
The Great Whernside race is one of those events where you leave the car park wishing the race was next week instead of next year.
Eryri Women won the team even in the British Champs so I Understand. Brilliant achievement, first time for the women.
Sarah K turned up 1/2 an hour late for the Eryri team bus this morning and was nearly thrown out of Blakes Babes. Lazy bugger slept in.
They must have set of really early. Amazing commitment
Should have done!
Unfortunately the wife was sound asleep when Mike called wondering where she was. I had to drive her to Bangor to make the bus at 6 am.
Great commitment though all the way through from the Northern Ireland race through to this. They've ran well, but worked bloody hard to get the numbers there to each race. Credit to Mike (and Arwel for the buses) for a lot of that.
To top off a great day England beat the Aussies! (and Man U won and we won 1-0 AET).
Try the second meaning
It's funny how you always crawl out of the woodwork at times like these.

Good photos mate . nice to see the faces gritting it out up and down. I am
no 57 red vest struggling as usual. cheers to all involved.
Many thanks to Peejay, Mrs Peejay and all helpers for this superb race.
Even arranged fab weather and a dry parking field. Grand as owt.
Cheers, Ali :)
Glad you enjoyed it. Results are about to be sent to Brett for the website.
Any more pic links?
Anyone know the route of Great Whernside? Can't find much info on't internet. I believe it starts in a camp site, but apart from going uphill with some great views at the top there isn't much more.
Thanks. G.
Straight up and down via Hag Dike. It's always worth using the forum search facility (although not many seem to know it exists judging by the number of duplicate threads ) - here's last year's thread.
Stop worrying mate.
I will give you a lift over and you just run the race;)
Thanks Mr Lad.
Stagger,
So I won't need my Sat Nav then????
Still need my knee to work properly by then. So a nice 6 mile XC race next Wednesday from Osmotherly to test it out. If it works then I'll be up that hill like a ......, and then probably fall and "stagger" all the way back down.
G.
I might be being stupid (no comments please!) but I can't find this race on the online calendar? Has anybody any details for this.
Hope this helps.
