Hello!
Can anyone shed any light about this club/affiliation? I see that there have been a number of runners who give this name as their club but I can't seem to find owt about it. Just curious as it's not the usual sort of name!

Cheers, Ali
Thanks for that Ali. Just taken a look at the site. An interesting variation on the normal running club.
A few Lostock runners are members and unless you are catholic there's a long waiting list to become a member!
Yes, I've seen some of the benefits (mountain huts etc) and it's tempting. I like the way you have to be proposed/vouched for by two members as well.
The Pope runs for them.
I'm thinking of changing sides so I can join!!
The hut in the langdales is really nice
and do bears... etc etc
Tut, tut Jogd, It's a mountaineering club. It does however have a strong running section who do very well at the serious long stuff. Their club long "walk" is a great do ( for club members and guests) . Usually very long but with excellent support.
Do they have any stables for housing fell ponies?
A very old climbing club - one of my old climbing partners was a member, and I've stayed at Tyn Twr, Dunmail ... and even Buckbarrow, when they had it - marvellous! But never Bishops Scale - too posh.
Although it is named after Pius XI, you don't have to be anything more than a keen mountaineer to join - although, from appearances, you do seem to have to be ... quite old!!
Old Achille Ratti was an accomplished mountaineer before he became Pope Pious according to a mate who was a member. He got me into their hut in Langdale once. Very nice it was too.
Rudolph! Are you intimating that Batman is quite old? ... and that Bishopscale is posh? Nay lad. 've been a member of the Ratti for a few years now ( I was actually introduced by Robin!) and although I may be creeping towards the edge of the prime of my life I'm still putting in a few PBs here and there ... and "oldness" is still on the distant horizon, and hopefully will stay there as my eyes deteriorate even more.
The Bishopscale hut is definately "comfortable" rather than posh ... big communal kitchen, wood burning stove, bunk rooms - its a proper climbing hut.
The Ratti? A great club, full of climbers, runners and outdoor enthusiasts. As Rudolph rightly says - Bloody marvellous.
No offence, Batters - after all ... you're only as old as you ... smell.
I'd really like to join this club as my first mountain experience was from Bishops Scale in 1966 when I was taken there by my school, St Mick's in Leeds. However, although I'm sure my parish priest will vouch for me (a requirement) I don't have any contacts in the club. Would it be indelicate to ask if anyone would like to propose me? Grovellingly. :D
Margarine used to be an altar boy. Would that get him in?
I used to be an altar boy (yes, they do allow hamsters)....and I'm still in touch with my parish priest of old..... Problem is I lapsed a long time ago so don't think my vote would count! :p
Hmmm, I see what you mean, it might be misconstrued.....in a court of law! :D
Grouse is right. I got to kiss the bishop's ring once.
 :D :D :D
