Lakeland Classics Trophy
From 2008 Pete Bland Sports has agreed to sponsor the LCT, which is now in its 7th year, for three years. This is the first time the LCT has had a dedicated sponsor.
The LCT organisers have previously restricted awards to the three Perpetual Trophies (First Man, Woman,Team) and awarded 12 Bentham Mugs to:
Men (in 2007 77 men completed)
First 3
V40
V50
V60
Highest scorer in all 6 races
Women (in 2007 7 women completed)
First 2
V40
V50
Team
High scoring members (either sex).
Twelve mugs has been sufficient because the LCT does not award two mugs to the same runner and eg no V60 women has ever completed the LCT.
However for 2008 to recognise the sponsorship of PBS the organisers are considering extending the number of awards so if anyone has any ideas the organisers (who have been thinking themselves) would be pleased to hear of them.

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
What about one for the highest woman scorer in all 6 events?
It might not happen, but if it does it should be recognised.

Thanks.
We will think seriously about this although only (I should not really write "only" since to do all 6 races is damn hard) one woman did all 6 events in 2007, none in 2006, none in 2005...[/quote]

How would you define 'Novice'?
Scurrys off to ask for map of lakes for christmas.....

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
"First time to complete" although there may be better ways

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Have you thought of having a handicap system - so the "most improved" person wins. Means everyone has equal chance of winning. Bit harder obviously to organise though...

Thank you. Any idea will be considered: that is why I asked the question.
It actually would be easy to eg calculate the most improved runner from one year to the next because all the data is computer based.
Incidentally in my report for the next Fellrunner I mention Pete Vale (Mercia) in particular because he has been runner-up for the last three years despite increasing his points total each time. Still only gets one mug though.
-
Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Graham - it would be nice to get a mug for completion of the whole series. I've finally managed it after several years of trying but I've no illusions that I'll ever be good enought to win one of the categories.
-
Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Thank you.
Well we have thought about that from time to time and in summary.
The LCT was set up to ensure the survival of Wasdale etc. It was not designed to be an end in itself. Brian and I were particularly concerned NOT to set up a "rival" English Champ with lots of prizes etc. You may laugh but there were more competitors in the 6 LCT races in 2007 than in the 6 British Champ counters.
The LCT presents its awards at the FRA "Do" which is really about the English and British Champs. I am allowed to present the prizes there through the kindess of Jon Broxap etc. However the understanding is that my spot is short and sweet as an entr'acte between the major award presentations. If I go on too long a big hook comes out of the side curtain.
And prosaically, since we have never had any sponsorship but just the occasional cheque from three of the race organisers, Brian and I have always underwritten the costs and I think we were reluctant at the outset to commit to an open ended expenditure of £100s each in perpetuity.
However, to repeat, with PBS sponsoring the LCT we are now reviewing what we do afresh so thank you for your comment.
Incidentally, for the first time the full results table wil be published in the next The Fellrunner.
(Yup! That was the summary!)

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
It hasn't finished yet, but just thought I'd say thanks to the people who organise and thought of this as it's such a great thing to be a part of.
It was my aim this year to complete it and, if I understand its rules correctly, I have done now (with more to come!).
The races I've done as part of it have been amazing and have provided some unbelievable memories.
Long may it continue!

You have indeed done the required number of races, LFF, with one still to come.
And I can reveal that you are in fact a place above Ricky Lightfoot in the table !! Though admittedly he hasn't done his third race yet !
Brett will be posting the updated table soon.

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Bill - as you are now one of the supremos for the Lakes Classics - do you how many of the pottery mugs are being awarded this year? I seem to recall it was a little more generous last year.., Cheers, Tom

I'm more the Results Monkey than a supremo. The Noor is the "supremo in charge of pottery mugs".
I do believe though that the number of mugs will be similar to last year.

Nothing to do with me so I can freely say that I should hope so too...or it'll end up like a fun run with a free T-shirt.
The number of mugs for the last three years was:
2009 20 of which women received 6 (18% of the finishers were women)
2010 20 ...................................6 (11%)
2011 22 ...................................7 (20%)

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
2012 will see 22 mugs presented.

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Just wanted to add my thanks to the organisers of the LCT. It's been my main focus this year and I managed to complete 5 of the 6 races. In the process I've got some amazing memories that will be with me for a long time.
-
Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Up your game for next season and there is a mug for most improved runner, well within your compass!;)

Really? I hadn't planned on doing these races - too far away. But now I'm tempted. Next year I'll enter and aim to finish each one last. Then in 2014...

Right then... I'll be keeping an eye on your results Andy. Any underperformance and I'll adjust the "improvement" calculation for you!!! ;)
Seriously though, if you haven't been doing the LCT races then you are missing out. Each one is a grand day (well, few hours anyway) out.

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
LCT 2013 results after the first 2 races are on the website: http://lakelandclassicstrophy.org.uk/ - thanks Brett for posting them.
If anyone spots any mistakes in the results, let me know.
Looks like its a Dark-Peak-only contest at the top at the moment !

Re: Lakeland Classics Trophy
Been updated after Wasdale now.
Thanks.

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone knew if the Lakeland Classics Trophy website was going to be up again as it seems to have had the same problems as the Forum.
Cheers,
Josh
-
I need to get round to updating the LCT points from Three Shires - I've just been too busy - in order to have something for Brett to actually update the LCT site with !
-
While the LCT website is down, I've tried to post the current LCT results into here, but the full table is too big.
So I've loaded them up onto our club website.
To see the LCT positions before Langdale, go to here: http://www.cvfr.co.uk/2013/10/lakela...phy-positions/
-
Bill, I've sent you a PM re the LCT results.
Thanks.
-
LCT results are available at http://www.cvfr.co.uk/2013/10/lakela...phy-positions/
Let me know if there are any errors.
Cheers, Bill

Thanks to Brett, results from this year's Lakeland Classics Trophy are posted: http://www.lakelandclassicstrophy.or...s-2/trophy-17/
56 people managed to complete the trophy this year, by racing 3 of the lakeland classics (including at least 2 of the super-long races).
That's less than there was a decade or so ago (the 104 who achieved it in 2008 was the high water mark) but still represents more doing the lakeland classics than when the LCT was initiated by Graham and Brian 15 years ago (38 people completed the first ever trophy in 2002).
Carl Bell's perfect score of 300 from 3 wins is only the 4th time its been achieved - Ricky Lightfoot (twice) and Rob Jebb being the others.
If anyone spots any mistakes in the results, let me know.
