Didn't stop a group of about eight of us getting lost on Offa's Dyke during the first of the series last year! Serves me right for playing follow the leader. :o

Thanks to you "guiding me round" last year, all I could see was my own shadow  .
800 lumens, eh? I'm happy with my puny 60 lumens.....honest  .
(It's a terrible thing lumens envy)

Ahah, slightly new course this year, but should be able to find your away around without too much problem. But it will be a rather damp course if its anything like it was on Tuesday night. You'll all have fun I promise!:D
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
I don't know how we all managed to get lost on the course, because Fellrunner is right when he says CRR races are really well marked out and marshalled.
I've been looking forward to these races for weeks. Bring on the muddy fun! :D
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
CRR members have four of these silly bright lights and may be rented out to the highest biders! It was very wet and muddy tues night but tim skipped round the puddles like a gurl to keep his new inov8's clean and dry
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
What's the tracks like on these races?
I'm tempted, but its a bit of a drive and I have the 4 villages half on Sunday, also recovering from a sprained ankle so if its uneven I definately won't risk it.
Are the good trails or quite uneven?
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
IainR
Its not exactly a golfing green to be honest! The first half is on mountain bike fire road and the rest is slightly uneven to say the least. Its not rocky but there are tree roots and bottomless puddles. You'll be fine if you look where you're going! :D

Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Remember that there are roadworks on the A525 between Wrexham A583 and Coedpoeth. I believe the road is shut and there are diversions. Be prepared for big delays.
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Cheers, ended up my football was called off tommorrow so doing the Twin Piers 10k Saturday and 4 Villages Half Sunday. I want to do at least one this year, but TBH the rain put me off tonight.
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Nothing worse than hard packed trails...could have done with some rain to soften it up a bit :D
Don't you just hate it when you hear that big squelch followed by the cold wet feeling as you carry on your way without your fell shoe. How it came off I have no idea, the laces were as tight as they could be...and to add some input to the SEAL SKINZ thread...they are sh**e when you are up to you knee with no shoe on
Great evening out though CRR, loved every minute, infact I slowed down so I could enjoy it for longer ;)
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
So glad you all enjoyed it. Its a great buzz seeing all the runners setting off in the dark, especially when its in the right direction!
My apologies to FellRunner for his 3rd palce on the results table. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll of course make sure the results are correct for a small fee!:D
Next Dash Race on the 1st Feb. There are some nice prizes for the overall winners at the end of the series.

Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
we could have set the route to miss the boggy bits but wheres the fun in that in the dark;) Well done to the Stig for winning
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Cheers CRR, that was fun :D .
Good to meet young Stanley, he should be a top signing for you.
Did we run around the reservoir or through it  ?
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Great race - especially the ghost marshalling halfway round - no difficulties following the route. Shame I couldn't stay afterwards for the prize giving but it's a long drive home.
But...
My *^&*$%&£ headtorch broke at the start of the first downhill
I overtook someone recklessly using the ditch at the side of the track and was full stride downhill on uneven terrain when the world suddenly went black. It's a Silva LX with a separate battery and the connection to the battery suddenly went. I eventually managed to get going again when I found that I could keep it on if if held on to the battery, but by this time half the field had overtaken me. I tried to catch back up again, then realised as I'm doing the Kinder Trial tomorrow I should just turn it into a training run
Highlight of the rest of the race was slipping in the mud (holding the battery wasn't doing much for my balance), and me lying on my back in the mud in complete darkness.
Guess I'd better get a new headtorch in the next two weeks!

Thanks - though I may be quoting you on that tomorrow!

Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Race Number 2 done and dusted. Great fun, as always. :)
Even more exciting than the race itself was the drive back to the road. Did everyone make it down without damaging their cars? I nearly hit the barriers several times due to sliding on the ice. :o

I was fine until I tried to stop at the bottom - I thought I was going to slide onto the main road:eek:
Anyone who was there will have spotted me... I was the one with a searchlight on my head! It was a Silva 480 incase you wondered :)
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Good race, very well organised again.First race in the dark and i enjoyed every minute despite the weather.Young Stanley was very anti social and seemed quite happy to leave me running all alone in the dark:(
Looking forward to the next race on the 15th of feb

Joe, so you've stuck with Silva and opted for the big quartz-halogen option. Some would say a retro step, technology wise, against all the new L.E.D. technology; but they certainly do a 'mega' job whilst the battery pack holds its charge. I borrowed Ali's last year to pace the last leg of No.6's B.G. The support party at Littletown thought that it was a shepherd's quad-bike descending off Robinson.

My LX is pretty fantastic (when it's not broken!) and the battery lasts all night - but I still can't run flat out on rough ground, which I can with the 480. If I'm stuck running (and racing!) at night I might as well spend a bit of dosh and get the most out of it.
I was going to try the Hope LEDs but they didn't return my call and were twice as much considering I already had the battery & charger with the LX.
I've now got 5(!!) running headtorches - my spare is the new Myo XP and that's pretty good except for racing and going "off-piste".

Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Glad you all got home safely, if slighty side ways! Last race on the 15th Feb. Hope to see you all there.

Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
But it's cold out there :( .
I'd much rather be at home with a bottle of red watching The Scarlets v Glasgow :) .

Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Thanks to everyone from coming to the Dash Races. I do hope all competitors enjoyed themselves. Thanks to all CRR ladies and gents who gave up their free time to help marshall. Special thanks to John Linley for my surprise present too.:D
Don't forget about the junior CRR race on the 16th March for 6-11 years held at Loggerheads park. More details to follow.
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
Cheers to Jordan, Danger Mouse, King of the Mountains & all the other CRR's who have had a busy couple of months organising races. Much appreciated.
Enjoyed last night & had a reasonable run, but respect to Stan who cycled the 10 miles there & beat the whole field by a couple of minutes.
-
Re: Dashes In The Dark '08
A big thanks from me too, really enjoyed them.
The results have been posted on the CRR site now ...here
