Full Tour of Pendle - 19th Oct
Yep, that time of year again when the cake tins come out of hibernation ;)
I know this is the same day as the relays but surely not everyone is going to the Clwydian Hills??
If anyone is up for a cake fest WI style after a trot round the full tour, then stick your names down and I'll see you there :D

I'd like to come along but would prefer an early-ish start (say 9 am) if at all possible.

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
Guys, enjoy yourselves on Pendle but please do bear in mind the erosion on the hill ~ many thanks. See note below from the Clayton Harriers website:
Erosion on PendleThe Committee has recently discussed the problem of erosion on Pendle Hill.
A particular area of concern is the path that has appeared on the Full Tour route. The erosion is particularly bad on the ‘Geronimo’ descent into Ogden and the descent to checkpoint 9, above the Downham Road Bridge (before the final ascent up the Big End).
But there are other scars: Spence Moor (above Churn Clough Reservoir), the ‘Bunny Run’ off Deerstones, Buttock Fell.
We appreciate that it is not just CleM members who use these routes or, for that matter, just runners. However, we feel that when we are out on Pendle, especially in large groups, we should try to avoid causing erosion, or making it worse. Please consider your routes and the possible impact on the landscape when you are planning routes on Pendle.

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
i'd like to have a go (a trot anyhow), i'm near Blackpool if anyone would like car share, whats this stuff about cake??
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
Presumably to avoid further soil erosion all I need do is run down Geronimo keeping to the (potentially fatal :D) rocks and mud rather than the safer (ish) tussocky grass at the edges?
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I appreciate what you are saying Mapper and this I guess can be said for many a fell. I did see yesterday however a few 'new' trods appearing above and below 'established' trods and yes it is a cause for concern.
For what it's worth I've never used the 'tourists' route yet off gerronimo and do indeed traverse further to the right heading for the wall and yep, try to avoid the rocks! ;)
Darth - all my recce's have cake. Nuff said :D
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I doubt whether Emmi wears many paths out. She is the lightest fellrunner out there:)

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I might just turn up at the end for the cake (post your recipe through the cafe door - they need it!).
Am working that night so 17 miles + cake may not be the best idea!! Well maybe.......

You could always trot up and meet us on the way back of the 2nd half but then again we are going to setting off early so you should have time to do the lot and get home in time for a nap? I'll include my special ingredient in the banana cake to help you sleep :D

That won't work - the first half is mostly downhill. Well compared to the second half it is anyway.

I pulled my puddings out to get in front of Stolly in case he scoffed it all.Hmmph:mad: I felt deprived had to go for a lemonade and a packet of crisps with the Master and Amex instead.

Yes it is dry up there at the moment - I'm sure it won't last!

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
can i come along on the 19th please. entered the race ages ago. was my first race last year and i came in next to last but that was with no training. if I cant keep up then just leave me to die on a fell. and i will then sneak back and eat all the cakes. please remind me what time and is it from the race carpark. I dont bake so will Mr Kiplings do?
forgot to mention that i fly back from Turkey the night before so will be full of lager. fly out this Saturday. yippee
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
Of course you can come!
Think we are aiming for a 9am start from barley car park - usually gives us chance before the ramblers start then noone can catch us 'runners' having a little walking break!! ;)
See you there - enjoy Turkey! :)
Not too worry Darth, sorry you double booked but there'll be other cake fests! :D

Del Monte I was chatting with you at the finish line in Dent on Saturday. Because the FToP race route effectively draws an 8 pointed star over Pendle Hill its a doddle of a route to choose to give up the ghost on :D, with Barley not too much of a stagger away where ever you stop.... although the foot of Big End isn't recommended.

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
Can I take a roll call for this one guys? Not only as I'll need to know what size cake to bake but if everyone suddenly has other plans then I don't fancy a trot round on my own in case I bust my ankle again :o
Talking of which after yesterdays effort at Wingathererer I'm resting it this week so will do the half tour route and may well drop back to the car after the drop off gerronimo and wait for the rest to finish.............
OR if it's the 2nd half people are needing/wanting to do we could just do that and miss the first half?
Anyway let's see who's up for going still and we'll take it from there
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I'm still in........... but may yet have to change plans due to 'family things'. I think I'm more likely to be there than not though and will probably run it on my own if no one else is coming :D
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I got a double day pass out this weekend and the green light for Mallorca so don't want to push it again this coming weekend as I intend to go up to Wasdale Saturday................sorry :(
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I am still in Turkey but still looking forward to the run on Sunday. We land bck at Manchester saturday evening and then going straight to a party so I am not sure what shape I will be in but definitely will be there. Is it still 9am start from the main car park. I will be coming from Bentham if anyone that's on the way wants a lift
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I quite fancy this. Will have to be nice to the better half. Despite living in Pendle's shadow, I don't really know much about the routes, so any stages would suit me.
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
I should be there but am out for a 30th on Sat night so as long as I behave I'll be there.
-
Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
okey doke,
looks like this is still on.
should be about half a dozen of us or so?
best bake that cake then
See you all at 9am Barley car park

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
What is the weather forecast for Sunday. Just so I can start mentally preparing myself from the hot sun here to whatever it is going to on Sunday. Looking forward to the cake. Just hope I can keep up with everyone

Not sure on the weather, I've been notoriously lucky in bringing the sunshine on various recce's  - here's hoping we're not let down this weekend! :D

Re: Full Tour of Pendle - 19th
