Bollocks! Tour De Galles is about 10 times worser than that! My arse is hurting in mere anticipation!
Is that in the Uk?I try and use my legs when riding my bike it must be hard using your arse and Bollocks lol.Why is it 10 times harder ??? Best Sportive does not mean how hard it is!!!!
Mate, try this on for size. Llanbadrig to Monmouth via St Davids and somewhere near Aberthaw, incorporating all the really big climbs in between.
Its now even harder in that as we are now going for the shorter version I have decided to include all the relevant col climbs on the way. Interestingly 3 of these are in the GFC!:D
Planning on a long weekend sort of thing. 4 at present, unless I can shrink the mileage from the current 500+
....Shakes head in a resigned way that says 'they're all mad"......
Count me in for back-up vehicle / sharing the pain (from a comfy seat)
Yup, barking, completely:D
We were hoping you might like to do some driving........er, just trying to sort out the logistics, potentially might we use your house as well???
Yeah, we're gonna need somewhere to park the vaseline tanker!
Is Rods Rock still there....and Mulletts Folly??;)
It's all gone very quiet since I mailed Wheeze the updated route including all the cols. I reckon he's scared:eek::D:D
nah........................
..................*uck me!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:
Yep... he's scared...
You and me in the back-up vehicle, snug warm and well-fed - watching the mad buggers toiling up some godawful big hill in the pouring rain into the teeth of a force-10 gale (if recent welsh summers continue to form) - yep, I can do that!
When? Any room for another nutter?
The Steam Bunnies are in conclave. Date to be announced on Tuesday(ish)
Excellent! Let me know when you have decided on dates and if it does not clash horrendously with my racing and working calendar, I might just tag along if you don't mind :)
Just what I was thinking.... or maybe she's going to join us for lemon drizzle cake in the safety of the back-up vehicle:D:D
Both options appeal, I wonder if I can combine the two? :D
Still in conclave....July looking possible......
July 2012 I hope - Olympics start on 27 July - only 1,235 days to go:D
Hanneke, I ought to tell you that OBW is renowned throughout the principality for his "Lemon Drizzle Cake". In fact we are a bit of a double act, I drive the support vehicle (ideally missing the large rocks and bridges which tend to jump out during our missions) whilst OBW concocts his LDCs on a meths stove in the back of the support wagon.
Secret recipe, naturally ;).
So if you want to find out what makes the steam rise in the Steam Bunnies and keeps those two old boys 'cooking on gas' as they peddle away, you need to be in the back of the van with the Moley and OBW.
Lick my pans clean babe ........:D Moley.
Don't know when I've last laughed so much!! Must get out more!!
Bring on the cake - recipe not that secret - I like the fact that it comes with it's own choice of wine :D:D- quick, better get the primus going in the back of the van!!
Lemon drizzle cake
Feeds 6. Takes 1 hour 15 mins. It doesn’t matter how rich, velvety and buttery a cake is — as long as it has enough lemon in it, it feels as if it’s good for you.
250g butter, softened
250g caster sugar
4 x 60g eggs
1tbsp grated lemon zest
250g self-raising flour
60ml fresh lemon juice
FOR THE ICING
125g icing sugar
25ml lemon juice
Heat the oven to 170C/Gas mark 3. Cream the butter and sugar well, until ribbons form. Add the eggs one by one, beating well after each addition, and the lemon zest. Add the flour all at once, and beat well, then slowly add the lemon juice, until incorporated.
Pour the batter into a well-buttered 23cm cake tin with removable sides, and bake for 50 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean. Leave the cake in the tin on a wire rack to cool, then gently remove the sides.
To make the icing, stir the lemon juice into the icing sugar until you have the right drizzling consistency, and allow the icing to drizzle down the sides of the cake. Leave the icing to set before storing in an airtight container or transferring to a serving platter.
Serve with a bowl of fresh figs, peaches or raspberries.
THE WINE Try a similarly flavoured pudding wine — the gorgeous, rich, peach, pineapple and citrus-stacked 2001 Maculan Dindarello Moscato from Italy.
I am soooooo coming on this trip, either on the bike, in the support vehicle or preferably both :)
I know, I shall spend all the uphills in the support van and all the downhills on the bike :D
Sounds like the sensible choice - all you need to do now is find someone who wants to cycle all the uphills and you can swap at the tops!!
Welcome aboard... there's always room for more folks of doubtful sanity on the Toffer/Wheeze Activity Tour For The Deranged:D
Guess I'd better double the quantities for cake!
You are all in serious trouble now, coz my physical therapist has told me to get on my bike to help heal my smitten calf. So I will be super-mega fit on the pedals and will smoke all you cycle-tourists and other pretenders to the crown.
Hanneke, watch out for Moley and his pans...just make sure that T'Missus has snatched his nadgers (again) before you indulge in any pan-licking activity!!;)
Are you sure you know what you are getting into here?:p
Wonder how Toffer got on in his outpatient appointment?
pm on the way. Its all bad. Going back on the bike and ignoring all sensible advice from now on. You know it makes sense:(
Whoo hoo! Its 'busted medics on bikes R us':D!
Thats better, I'm back, alive, defiant in the face of learned opinion. Looks like we are going to have to start a new thread.........:)
I am bust as well, torn ankle ligaments, souvenir from OMM 2008, that is why I am on the bike, rather than running up and down hills :)
And yes, I think I know what I am letting myself in for and yes to double quantities of cake too :D
OK, I'll start baking...:D
Can't believe I just said that:(:(
