Yeah, Great race and thanks to Bob Lillie and Dave Parry for organising it - its been a bit of a headache due to land restrictions and farmers. One thing I might add is the possible formation of a new club for the North York Moors area - North East Hill Runners. Bob and dave have information on this.

Website currently being set up but I think the first organising meeting is on 12th april at Eskdale pub Castleton - but I would need to check those details and get back to you. The reason for the new group is that some but not all members of the fell section of North York Moors are going it alone because of frictions around road/X country and fell and that NYM has lost its way and swung towards road and XC too far - particularly with the installation of the old road manager as club chair. That said I'm still a member of NYMAC but if a significant amount of the fell section go then I will go with them.

Yes, it was the same reason for the formation of NYMAC from Mandale AC in M'bro - that they were sick of supporting track and youth stuff so the road, XC and fell section departed to form NYM but in reality it is now like 4 different clubs who dont run or socialize together (fell, road, ladies, XC - although there is a little bit of crossover) and the fell section have been unhappy for a long time and there have already been some key departures from veteran fell runners for whom UKA is just meaningless. I'm still undecided though so it should be interesting. Its been for quite complex reasons why all of this has come about but frankly personalities are involved as in any club. The only thing I do bemoan is the lack of a great long A race for the North york Moors - a lot of Dave Parry's races are just too short so a lot of the fell section run more of the LDWA events
Myself and three clubmates came across from Leeds and we all enjoyed it.That uphill finish was a bugger though !
Spent a pleasant hour in the Lion Inn afterwards :D
Should get across to the NYM more often really.

I have to agree with all of the above, Blakey Blitz was one fantastic race, great variety of terrain, personnally I enjoyed the hills, wished I'd done the recky previously as it may have helped at the start (turned around and every one had gone a different way) hey ho thats what makes it so interesting. Dave and co, like everyone else thanks for organising some great racing.

Fellhound,where are Bowland fell runners based ?
You must have got up early to travel to Blakey.
I am interested why you would travel to a race that had not been run before,do you know the area or have run some of the Dave Parry races before ?
I am been nosey realy .
We are based around the Forest of Bowland, which is roughly bounded by a triangle drawn through Lancaster, Preston, and Settle. It's a great wild area!
My reason for travelling (to cut a long story short) is that my girlfriend lives near Otley and so I was (fairly) close. I had a lot of choice that weekend but I think I made the right decision :D

Yes, the meeting in the Eskdale is open to all, although I should note that North East Hill Runners will be a different group from NEHRA who organise the summer and winter series - although its still Bob Lillie and Dave Parry who will be organising the new club
Any News on when the New club will be up and running;)? I planned to go to the meeting to find out details but was busy at work. I'm looking for a New club, preferably a Fell club. Ive just moved up to the aea, and have been researching around the local clubs. Before id read on here about North east hill runners my choice looked limited and it sounds like NYMac are having afew problems from reading the threads, I just want a club where I can Run, and socialise with the members.Quote:

An excellent course up on the North Yorkshire Moors,held this coming Sunday.
A few of us travelled over from Leeds to do it last year and throughly enjoyed it ( and the pub at the end too :D)

This is the toughest and penultimate race of the Esk Valley Winter Series at 9.5miles and 2370' of climb, and the last climb of about 750' is the run-up to the finish, so not really a sprint finish.
The start/finish is at The Red Lion Inn, which is an incentive:).

An excellent race with a downhill start and an uphill finish and one heck of a steep climb in the middle!
Sweeet, ive bagged a lift and foresaken my first claim duties in the Hartlepool 5 mile!! So I shall be at Blakey on Sunday, god willing :p, and Im hoping for a stormer as ive had some blinding training sessions in the last couple of weeks :D
Not my neck of the woods, but happen to be on holiday nearby, so looking forward to giving this one a go. Seen the map on the website - is the route on the ground pretty obvious?
Its not an intuitive route but all the more interesting for that.. The climb out of Rosedale gives you a couple of routes up. If misty the paths across from Rosedale to Fryup head are a problem and I have lost the route a couple of times training up there. The main problem is when you are down in Fryup heading up for the head of the valley. Once past the barns there should be a marshal directing you to the right/west up to the rabbit warrens and away from the lower ground which is a SSSI area. Loads of people have pushed their way through this area in the past and we need to stay away from that section. Dave or Bob will probably mention this at the start no doubt. There are another couple of local knowledge cuts you can make but ill keep them to myself! I think its a great route though and all thanks to Bob Lillie for getting this route into a race format last year

'Polar' does indeed describe the wind on top but it was a brilliant race. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite it being rather gruelling bog trotting when the wind was against us.
Fine indeed, Great fryup Dale is brilliant ,along with top of Rosedale.. That wind sorted me out, needed to put my feet up after that last climb to finish, hope to be back next year, see you there DJ to improve yet again old chap:D... To confirm the lady was found:), she finished in just over 3 hours, so seems like a case of the last one out on the course.
Well that was a terrific fell race and route with no real let up at any point, the second half of two ascents (including the climb to the finish:eek:) and one descent plus the gale force head wind meant that it was a very testing second half and stamina sapper.
