Did you mean to post a link to this
Burt at his best although you can't beat him in smokey!!
BBC1 ......7 O'clock tonight......John Cooper Clarke on mastermind.
John cooper clarke, he's a blast from the past. Remember seeing him support Frank sidebottom years ago. A poem called Chicken Town would be good to hear at 7pm... Erm, maybe not.
I have something in common with JCC that being I also married a monster from outer space.
BBC4 Dissected - The Incredible Human Foot, just been on tonight well worth a watch on iplayer. explains biomechanics for numpties like me!
Nice to have two such positive stories about youngsters on BBC Northwest tonight - the two lads who did nuclear fusion in a school lab, and the young woman who designed the memorial to the sailors who died when HMS Birkenhead sank.
Second series of 'The Americans' started with episode one carrying on the quality of the first series. With the recent events in the Crimea our eponymous heroes might not be looked upon so favourably in this series by the public. I still like them though :D
Ken Burns "The Civil War" repeats on PBS America this week.
Still the pinnacle of documentary making, over 20 years since its release.
meant to mention a few days ago
new series of Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle on BBC2
Ep2/6 on tomorrow
I assume you can see Ep1 on iPlayer
You guys watch some sh!t!
Shetland.
Dark. Like the setting though. Looks like parts of the SW of Ireland here, cliffs, rain and bog.
True Detective. A triumph of style over substance?
It's getting better each week. Thought there was only me watching it?! Are you on the 1st series? Apparently the first series has already finished (I'm only on episode 3) but it's supposed to get very good, we shall see! The major flaw is needing subtitles to actually hear what Matthew Mc is saying.
I've just wasted 60 hours or so watching Breaking Bad.
While I really enjoyed it, the time would have been much better spent!
I might check out True Detective. Breaking Bad has its moments but I didn't think it would warrant 60 hours to watch all of it? It feels like they're hammering home the same point dozens of times? (I haven't seen all of it I hasten to add).
Anyone else on House of Cards? Even (especially?) if you remember the original version they still manage to leave you guessing. And the series 2 opener looked like a step up on series 1.
My head is getting a battering with The True Detective. How do the writers conjure up such amazing subjectives?
'Vikings' well into its second series now. The History channel is hosting this series though it wouldn't be out of place on HBO. There's only so many ways you cleave someone with an axe so they put in a crucifixion this week just to mix things up a bit. Yet another loss by the Saxons in England, you would have thought they would have managed at least a score draw by now.
Series 4 of 'Game of Thrones' starts tomorrow  Apparently its being broadcast at 2am tomorrow without any adverts, just as its shown on HBO. The adverts will be back for its normal 9pm evening slot. I shall record the 2am showing so I don't need to fast forward through the adverts.
Great start to the fourth series of GOT. Its only the first episode that will be shown early and without adverts, more's the pity.
The boy in stripped pyjamas
thought provoking or what?
I've been loving it edit: although the savagery is a little extreme at times... the inevitable spread-eagling is on the way. Hilarious mix of myth and pseudo-history, I mentioned it to a friend who is enjoying it, amongst other things, for the hairstyles and axe-porn.
These are my folk ;) To put that sentence in context see the BBC documentary Border Country if you're quick (2 episodes, narrated by Rory Stewart MP for Penrith & Borders), nice to have history based on 'my' Lancaster/Cumbria/Yorkshire/Northumbria/Borders, not as focused as the Anglo-Saxons documentary was, but that was only about England, and only 50-odd years. Here we have everything including Romans, Welsh speaking Rheged, tedious Anglo-Saxon golden age of Northumbria, there due comeuppance à la series 1 of Vikings (that was so funny, especially the look on Æthelstan's face when he realized what he'd done), Viking Cumbria stretching all the way to Glaschu, with hill farming and what you ought to know about the cairn at Dunmail Raise, WHY THE ENGLISH WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN (parts i & ii), monasteries and more sheep, Robert the Bruce as a Borderer, then later Reivers and so on. Everything aside from the plaintive 'Scotland don't leave us' at the end, which kind of goes against the rest of the story.
Game of Thrones will have to work hard to match the passion in my previous post! (And I thought passion was dead around here, but then I had a look at the football thread).
It seemed a slow start to me, more of a build-up episode. They do have a lot of characters so they don't get a lot of screen time, and it requires a lot of commitment to interpret anything as character development. Arya & The Hound looking good as you say, Ygritte had her brief moment, we'll see how it goes.
I looked at some of the books and decided that they were nothing I would spend time reading (purple prose amongst other criticisms), so I don't know what's coming, although I just discovered that it is very easy to accidentally find spoilers via Google auto-complete suggestions!
Hope you saw the story about the school-teacher
And Maisie Williams' (16-yr old Arya actress) feminist angle on marriage. Or just a phase.
Last of this seasons True Detective tonight. It's on 'record' - do you still say that nowadays? Have to wait until the smallest of the small people (who are nearly all taller than me) have gone to bed.....come on, the anticipation is killing me.
Breezy have you stuck with it?
