Went to a second hand bookshop in Uppingham, Rutland. Rustic old place with just the gentle tick-tock of a grandfather clock and the faint aroma of percolated coffee and mothballs. Sat down in a dusty old leather armchair and glanced over at the "sports and pastimes" section. Right there amongst old copies of Wisden, a couple of "boys own" annuals and a 1950s book on model aeroplanes there it was! With trembling hands I took it down from the shelf and blew the layer of dust from it to reveal the price tag of 2 pounds fifty...
...not SMOTS, but "fly fishing" by JR Hartley.;)
