Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th May
concentrating mainly on the "drops" furthest away from Hayfield (Grindsbrook, Lady Booth, Jaggers, Crookstone and Blackden - maybe substitute Fair Brook for Grindsbrook...)
I certainly won't manage the whole thing though!
Just me atm, but all welcome... :)

Where were you thinking of setting off from Daz. Was planning on a long hilly trip on Thurs/Fri myself

probably going to start/finish in Edale, although Snake Inn is a possibility...
-
Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
I could well be up for this if you don't mind me tagging along.

Layby just beyond Snake inn (sheffield side) is better for me plus easier/cheaper parking 8.30 ish?
Don't see a problem if Nik wants to come?

no problemo - more the merrier :)
main factor for others will probably be putting up with my "steady" pace :D

Sounds like a plan!
Fair Brook looks an obvious first ascent,
then (since I'm NOT attempting the whole thing!) I guess we'll be crossing The Plateau Itself  to the Edale side, and picking up the KK route at Druid's Stone?
(maybe throw in a cheeky "bonus" drop down Grindsbrook and back up Golden Clough or Ollerbrook Clough?)

8.30 it is at the SI layby.
How long did you want to be out? I'll take you on a guided tour if you like. 5+ climbs of the plateaux? picking the best bits of course slow and long suits me.

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Hi Ian
I mainly want to use my day off work to do the eastern end stuff (LadyBooth-Jaggers-Crookstone-Blackden) cos I can do the western stuff on regular weekend training runs from Hayfield.
Other than that, I'm open to offers :D
I was originally going to start/finish at Edale - maybe start with an ascent of Grindslow (from Broadlee) and finish at the top of Blackden with a shorter plateau-crossing back
I reckon SnakeInn-FairBrook-(Grindsbrook-Golden/Ollerbrook)-DruidsStone-LadyBooth-Jaggers-Crookstone-Blackden-GateSide-SI is about 15M and should keep me out for about 5 hours, which should be about right for me atm

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Snake Inn at 0830 on Friday 15th sounds good to me... slow pace is good as I''m trying to do as much training with a pack on at the moment to strengthen me up for www.rockandiceultra.com next year. If it's not too hot and no-ones got any objections I'll bring the hound... he's pretty nimble on the rocks and happily trotted up Crowden Clough last weekend.

pooch is fine by me - last BG recce I did, Dave The Dog coped better with the hills/snow than I did! :o
I want to get some hills in as training for Cader Idris at the end of the month,
and distance in cos I have a beady eye on either Dovedale Dipper or Long Tour Of Bradwell at the beginning of August...
in between, I'm expecting to slaughter my time from last year at Kinder Trog

Doh!:o:mad:
What a donkey:(
Sorry guys spotted this last night and realised you are out next week where I was going out this morning.
I'm supporting a PB next week so won't be able to make it so feel free to set off from Edale if it's easier for you.
Have fun

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Ian - so the date being in the title of the thread didn't provide you with a clue then? ;)
are you sure you didn't text your message in from the lay-by?! :D
nik - how is an Edale start for you? or would you prefer to stick with the Snake Inn start...?
-
Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Edale is better for me coming from Chinley.... I'll be relying on you for route finding as my knowledge of the lesser known routes/cloughs is sketchy to say the least. See you in front of Nags Head at 0830?

just got back from my trip out and boy it was wild up there. Blue sky and strong winds started the day but first HAIL:eek: which hurt like hell then rain and I'm sure a little bit of sleet  I had trouble standing up at times and saw no one on the hill at all.
spotted the date last night.

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Well Done Ian!
hopefully won't be so wild next week! ;)
nik - "I'll be relying on you for route finding" - oh boy oh boy are we in trouble!
definitely start from Edale then, to keep plateau-crossing to a minimum :o
-
Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Did a full loop of the plateau from Hayfield on Sunday so hopefully have a better idea of the lay of the land.... looking at the long term forecast, it could well be a wild one!

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th

due to appalling weather forecast for early tomorrow morning, nik & I have agreed to delay start by a couple of hours
we'll set off from Edale about 10:30am, so I'm guessing we'll be around the UpperAshopFarm/BlackdenBarn area around 1-2pm...

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
Cheers Daz, enjoyed the run. Good call on the weather although typically the sun has come out now. Loads of water coming of the top made the cloughs quite interesting but has got me fired up for having a crack at the Killer, Dozen or both.
-
Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
likewise - Thanks nik!
great time had by all
especially enjoyed ascents of Jagger's and Blackden :D
as nik said, the descents of LadyBooth and GoldenClough were "interesting" (read life-threatening) in such wet conditions
Ian - shame you couldn't make it - I really wanted to gloat over how we arrived at Ashop Farm at almost exactly 1:00pm ;)

Ended up at the physios so I'm a little black and blue this morning.
Blackden and Jaggers are stunning on a summers day but can be daunting in flood.
Did you see the ring ouzels? They nest high in Blackden but may have been taking cover from the weather. the nests were taken out last year by a landslide.
May be next time

Re: Kinder Killer - Fri. 15th
I did hear an unusual bird-call near the top of Blackden, and stopped to peer up into a couple of trees, but couldn't spot anything - I would've spent longer looking, but I'm sure nik thought I was taking (yet another) sneaky breather :D
