Saturday night television (along with most other nights tbh) is utter tripe. Same old re-runs, repeats and shows that have been on forever. Consequently I'm thinking of axing my television! Any thoughts? I think someone told me there's at least one regular forumite who doesn't have one ;)
Oh, and I've conviently forgotten about Strictly as the next series won't be on for months :(

I don't own a tv (they keep sending me letters about my tv licence though). Haven't missed it in three years. Couldn't do without broadband though.

Especially the Dutch ones. Before I moved in with my ex hb, I had no tv either, but every year the licence people would come round in Holland, to check if I did not have one hidden... One year the guy checked inside the oven!!!! :eek:
And quite how you hide one under a very low futon bed, I don't know, but one checked that too one year... and between the plants on the balcony!
You can watch the Tour on the internet.
Not had one since i moved in early December and have never missed it - really thought i would be lost without, but don't actually know when i'd watch tv now... :D
You can watch most things worth watching on the internet, at times that suit you... and as I have a latop, anywhere in the house and garden! My wireless broadband would probably stretch to the pub too LOL!
Do you not need a tv license to do this? I don't mean go to the pub!:D

We ditched the telly also. Now we watch I Player and equivalents. We have a flat screen monitor with an Eeebox (low power PC stuck on the back). No longer do we watch crap cos we can select what we watch. We also enjoy listening to radio programmes on there as well. You could watch Julia Bradbury whenever you wanted to!!Lol!! TV licence pays for a lot more than BBC TV: all the radio stations, world service etc. When I've been thousands of miles from home with a SW radio for company, I ain't been complaining about the BBC ...
I have a friend who hasn't had a TV for about 5 years and says he doesn't miss it.
With 2 young children got to say it is a help at times! Most of the stuff we watch is recorded on Sky+ and then watched once the kids are down, most of the scheduled stuff is crap and as for Saturday night - I can see why people go out! Its like tabloid TV.
Don't need a licence for internet tv, DT. It's not a "live transmission". I may be corrected though! Why should i pay licence fees when my local area has no news coverage?
We don't have a tv signal here, so if I wanted tv I'd have to deface my lovely chapel with a sattelite dish! No way is that going to happen.
I also thought you did not need a licence for watching iPlayer, but then a friend said to me that every 'unit' that is capable of relaying a tv signal has to have one... Mind you, this is not a tv signal, but I was told that even having a tv-set to play dvd's without having a signal will attract a fine if you don't have a licence!
You only need a licence for live TV. iPlayer doesn't count. A telly for DVD's might probably need a licence if it has a tuner in it as it's capable of receiving TV signal, even if you don't / can't. You don't need a licence for a big PC monitor to watch DVD's on.Quote:

The most I ever watch the TV is at work now, most of it is just a load of rubbish. Iplayer allows you to catch the good stuff, and the rest is not worth the time wasted.
Have to say I could not be without Eurosport for ME cycling.
But i despair at the rest of the shit on TV.

You're right when you say you only need a licence if you watch live visual programming. This holds true irrespective of the device used to watch the content; if you stream live video over the internet to your computer or to your mobile, you are liable for the licence fee, even if you do not possess a television.
