Entries for the Highlander Mountain Marathon 2010 opened today along with launch of the new website and the announcement of our new sponsors Haglofs.

I've not done this one before. How do people think that the classes for the highlander compare to the OMM/LAMM classes? We did B at OMM, but decided to enter the C for this due to the winter weather potential and also because we will be carrying more clothing etc.
its hard to say, 1st year weather was good, 2nd year it was said to have been worst weather of any mountain marathon run in uk, 3rd year good again, (it is only 3 years so far henry??) they changed the date after last year i think to try and avoid the last snow/wintery weather. i think youd be ok with b, or score, but obviously theres so many variables. hioefully ill be doing score next year, if i can sort out kids and school hols! i have a soft spot for highlands so im maybe wrong person to be replying, some of the scenery is fantastic, i like it more than wales/lakes/dales etc. you could email henry, hes a nice enough bloke, but dont agree to recce/run anything with him mind you!Quote:

Thanks guys - I think we'll stick with C. I can't manage score - I get too stressed worrying about being late back and can't enjoy myself:-)
Cracking event- first one put in the diary every year.
Henry- the event is the 17-18th April but I note the Sportident Website seems to list it as 10th April unless I'm mistaken.
Right time to get an entry in.

The date has now been switched to the 10th and 11th April bringing the event into the Easter holidays. Hopefully this will make it more suitable for a few more people.

Hi Henry. I'm always wary of signing up to things like this as I get far too much junk mail already. On the other hand having entered the Highlander 2010 I obviously want whatever info there is going about it. Are the newsletters just about the Highlander? How often will they appear? GAIRLOCH
10th and 11th April
The location for this year's Highlander is in the wonderful hills around Gairloch. The planners and controllers have been out through the winter and have put together a fantastic set of courses. The area provides stunning scenery to rival all the past highlanders. The Ceilidh band is booked and the Bar will be stocked so why not enter now!

Sounds like it could be a snow-free Highlander - the hills around Gairloch aren't very high, & it's right on the coast. I'll pack my swimming things.Quote:

I'm packing tonight and have been having similar thoughts...had pretty much decided on zero midge kit. Having my doubts now.....head net or no head net? :o
Well it's early in the season, but I've been caught out that way before in the Highlands. I'm not planning to take anything on the run, but I'll have Deet handy for Friday evening/Sat morning. If it's bad I can alway change my mind & take it on the run as well. I'll risk no head net - I've got a buff & that'll have to do. (Officially it's a hat of course).Quote:

As for clothing...I'll be taking plenty of layers; I'm a whimp when it comes to cold and wouldn't want to freeze if I suffered an injury and had to limp back slowly!
up till today no midges or ticks, but weathers warming so id take the midge spray and tick extractor. its fairly warm so far, went for a run tonight in hills and had to take extra layer off, weather forecast is for high pressure
