Is it possible to find out the average age of the FRA membership.
Both men and women
Ladies are you sure about that ?.
Of course present company excluded.
Are we talking birth age or mental age? :D
(41 and 13 would be my guess if both - hey, I am Mr Average!!)
Hmmmm! At least we have a mark in the sand, I suspect that the average birth age (we are talking male only here!) is a bit more than 41, the reasoning behind this less than scientific statement is that all the fell runners that I see look like me......grey hair and not much of it:o
Average age accross both sexes: 40 +/-2yrs
Early 40's is my estimation
It's amazing how wrong your percieved age of people on here is, i thought one particular forumite was about 38 but they are actually approximately half that.
If Al and Tom left it would double the average age :D
Graham Breeze noted in his article Classic lakeland races that the population of fellrunners was ageing . Has this stat changed or are we still ageing even further.
Daz,
Although this won't be up-to-date, based upon the membership stats provided by Martin Stone to the FRA Committee earlier this year the membership has an average age of 47, with the average male member being 47 and the average female member being 39.
I've not really got the time to go back through the lists over the past years, but it is generally accepted that people are taking part in active sports later in life these days, and that there is an increasing choice of activities available for young folk. Without looking at any other measures, these two factors are likely to create an aging population.
Alan
so... the average is older than all previous estimates... and I'm still older than the average:(
I'm not entirely sure what the point of this thread is but two things that may be relevant...
1) Not all fell runners are members of the FRA
2) Not all members of the FRA are fell runners.

Good point Steve, I also think the younger runners are less likely to join an organisation, even join a club.
I'm 19 ... honest :o
Well no. I suppose I am not really 19 :(
Bugger, I thought I was above average :)
Using these parameters I am below it :(
Yay, less than half the average age :)
I wonder how quick I'll be if I continue to fell run till I'm the average age!
Is it possible that the ageing average age will always be getting away from us?

This could only be true if females make up a very small fraction of the total. If the numbers are anywhere near equal, the overall average would be close to half way between the male and female averages.

My male member is 2 years older than average.:)
Fortytwoteen and now counting backwards. Will be using dog years from now on ie 7dog yrs = 1two leg year.
My boss has started counting his age in hexadecimal (we're geeks).
So being 48 in decimal makes him 30 in hexadecimal.
I am 1D in hexadecimal - not quite so impressive :(
