Keighley and Craven beginners
Hi any of you KCAC types out there, I'm a returnee and would like to join a club. You guys would be my nearest, and the beginners group would be ideal except for one thing...
...I'm no laydee! How come it's women-only, no blokes? I don't think I'm quite up to the wednesday night seven-miler yet, and I haven't got any road shoes...
(I suppose I could always dress up?):p
-
Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Why not come along and join in anyway? There's a few different groups go out on a Thursday. The laydees might let you join them!
-
Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Come to the White Lion in Kildwick tonight and come out with us, remember your headtorch if you're coming off road.

Good idea K1M. A steady run out followed by free chips and a pint of Landlord. What more could anyone want?

About half way between Keighley and Skipton. Red Lion has a very distinctive Tetleys sign that lights up red at night. Headtorchers every Wednesday night 6-45, various forumites usually in attendance

Can anyone turn up? I missed my Tues Clayton headtorcher last night 'cos of a flat tyre. If I'm done in time today, might tag along?

Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Sod it, I might trot along - my daughter has just told me that I'm taking her to Skipton at 6 pm tonight so I may as well do a run while I'm there. Will you have finished the run (not the beer) by 8?
-
Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Got an address for this pub, or is it obvious from the main Colne/Keighley road? I'll be coming from Colne direction.

Re: Keighley and Craven beginn

Nice to see you for 2 mins as you started and I finished. As I said at the time thought you were oldish and fat rather than about 3 and skinny. Be good to see if you can run when this injury lifts.

Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Well, I didn't finish work til seven, got home about half past, but from what I've seen, isn't the Kildwick run a seven miler? I know the White Lion, it's a two mile trot along the canal from Silsden - is it the same route every week, on road or towpath?
-
Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Well thanks brett and millipede - a cracking run to.... um where ever the heck we ran to. I ought to make the effort to become a fully fledged K&C Wednesday night part timer
Now to work out how to do Kettlewell and not get stabbed to death with the kitchen scissors afterwards!
Oh and drat, drat, drat for missing antisocial :D
-
Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Turned up about 15mins late. Too late for the headtorchers, but in time to tag along with the roadies. But not before bumping into Aunty Sally. You confounded my expectations too, sir. You seemed to be a decent, friendly chap (or is that supposed to be a secret?;))
P. Bear, reckon 7mi is about right (7 too many in a beat up pair of Fell Dancers).
Good to meet Millipede, Penguin, and of course Brett afterwards. Thanks for allowing me to join you. Will bear that in mind next time I miss a Tues run with Clayton.
Stolly, it's my round next time. Cheers.:)

Re: Keighley and Craven beginn
Two groups
Those on the road run about 7 miles, but there are plenty of places to cut short. The group reconvenes every 2 miles or so - no-one gets left behind
The off road run sets off at the same time and we do what the group wants to do - tonight was a bit shorter than usual due to the inclement weather and the lure of the mushrooms and potato skins in the boozer - oh, and Landlord and Daleside's Old Leg Over

Yes of course we have an under 5's section:)
How come you mainly train offroad round "poncy" silsden then whilst KCAC trains offroad in the winter nights?

Bought a mountain bike 2 weeks ago, first ride was Whinlatter duathlon - crashed and handlebars went into my left side, had a permanent stitch like pain that appears to tug when I run and means I cannot go far or stretch out. Dr's tested kidneys for damage but reckon it is muscle pull. Does not seem to bew getting better or worse. Bit frustrating as I was just starting to get fitness back after laying off for almost a year till july. Just withdrawn from the Calderdale relay team because of it.

If so...maybe you and Scotty can form a double act? :D Actually, I was serious! Me n'Grifter'll be doing it as a team ('im cycling, me having a trot round ;)) That'd be a good race twixt the pairs methinks...

Excuse me - look at the size of Silsden, it has a Thai restaurant, a bistro style Italian, several estate agents wine bars and a duck pond. It only has its own running club cos it members are scared to come into Keighley:p
