“It was a near-death experience. I told my kids that I may not have come home that night. It was a close one. I thought I was dead.”
Just the sort of thing to tell your kids that :(
Divine justice!

show a bit of repect for the poor tractor that has gone to the great garage in the sky. maybe Mr Weir can hold a candle lit service for it at the mines, entrace fee £5;o)
You would think with a name like Weir he would be at home in the water.
Weir oh!
I always thought it was Weird
It's Mark, not Mike.
I should know as I had a limited edition (of one) t-shirt made up after the 2008 OMM with his comment printed on the back.
Also, if you say 'Mike Weir' it can sound like 'My Queer', of which he certainly is not.
I wish I could have been up stream, I would have pee'd my hardest.
His karma is chasing him...helicopter indeed!!!
When did Emmi land a helicopter?;)
He may have been a total arse over the whole OMM thing but hes still a fellow human being with a wife and family and we shouldnt wish anyone ill
Totally agree. While there is a disturbingly satisfying irony about this latest incident, the past is the past. His actions in these extreme situations have lacked good judgement. In future, his opinions in these matters will count for nothing and should be ignored. And that's all.
Thank goodness he didn't have any of his children in the tractor cab with him.
No, CCR is right.
We should be nice to people, even if we don't think they are nice people.
I agree. He is guilty of nothing more than being a shameless self publicist, which for a successful businessman (which he undeniably is) must be pretty common. He was in this case attempting to get to the pumping station to restart the water supply, which had he not had his little adventure could have been fairly selfless act of public spiritness. In the actual event, it became another excuse for media exposure, albeit on a pretty local scale. His comments re the OMM likewise served to help publicise the event (no such thing as bad publicity blah blah), whilst putting off nobody who was serious enough to give it a go. Give the guy a break!
''He was in this case attempting to get to the pumping station to restart the water supply, which had he not had his little adventure could have been fairly selfless act of public spiritness.''
If this is right, you'd have thought he would have said so to Border TV, instead of looking a bit daft. Mind that could be just the way the report was put together.
Genuinely pleased that someone has had the nerve to step away from the 'give the bloke a good kicking' mode and post something with a bit of humanity.
Alright, so some of his comments at the OMM were silly, but he isn't some sort of panto villian that we all have to hiss at every time his name's mentioned.
Oh no he isn't!
(this could go on a while)
behind you.....:D
