I see you can now enter the Snowdon race. Who's doing it this year?
Yep. Hopefully someone will pack an atlas this year? Last year we did a tour of Shropshire on the way (very nice it was too), but I only got three hours kip and it all caught up with me 5 minutes into the descent. Revenge will be sweet!
I am doing it I think. Just need to enter.
i will be there
I've tried downloading the entry form, and it says that it contains Japanese characters! I know Welsh sounds a bit different from English, but I thought they used the same alphabet.
Don't know why I was trying to download it as it's more than my life's worth to try to convince the family to come home a day early from holiday just so that I can take part! Shame.... it was on my must-do list for 2007.
I can't download it either. This is planned to be my main target for the summer
Just tried 3 different versions of Adobe and can't open it. Foxit pdf reader seems to work,

I've managed to open it and may well be having a crack
Im doing it again hope to be fitter this year.
Has anybody been able to download the entry form yet?
I have not managed to download the entry form yet, but i am becoming increasingly tempted by the Ben Rinnes five tops race, reckon it might be a more challenging/interesting event than running up and down the tourist path on Snowdon, and it probably does not have that steep tarmac (as in Snowdon & Ben Nevis) to the finnish that completly destroys your legs.
Try this one,
Entry Form
Thanks Dom.
Thanks from me as well
28th July then .
I'll have another go , let's hope I can shift a few lbs of lard off first .

I've entered this race, and for me it's going to be the highlight of my racing year, and my farewell race in Britain as we're moving to France in September. (This is of course if I get in, there's only 450 places)
I've been told that you're best off doing this race in road shoes/flats, because it's quite hard packed trail. Does that mean I need to train on harder surfaces to get accustumed to 10 miles of pounding?
People have said that it's quite a tough race, what do you all think?
Roads/flats would be about right I reckon. It was dry last year so grip wasn't an issue. How much that changes in the wet i don't know. A bit of cushioning softens the blow but as it's rocky something low profile with good feel helps. One trip and it's gonna hurt! A good set of quads will make things easier too, unlike mine, that decided they'd had enough about 20 minutes too early!
Seeing as Ben Nevis is getting all the attention, I thought i'd revitalise this thread too! It seems that this race isn't popular amongst the forumites. Now I know it's straight up and down a rocky path, there's no grass or scree, you have to dodge the 'sandwich-eating, anorak-wearing tourists' who've got the train up instead of walking and Ben Rinnes is on the same day, but tell me I'm not the only one who thinks that there's something special about going into battle with the second highest peak in the land?
You were right Geoff, Snowdon would be about the 57th highest, I thought there would be lots higher. They always feel higher, especially on the west coast as you tend to start from sea level so climb the full height.

I know what you mean, Iain, especially when compared to an ascent of Snowdon starting from Pen y Pass.
Just think about about the effort required to get up any of the Cuillin hills compared to Snowdon, and they don't even top 1000m.
How to make a complete lemon of yourself in one easy step!!
I'm not even going to try and talk my way out of it.......
The Cuillin was what I was thinking off, the first peak on the Ridge, Gars Bhein (is it?), such a drag to get up.
We walked around to do the Dubhs ridge, grabbed a pile of fresh mussels, then climbed back over to Glen Brittle and cooked them up, made it all worth while.
I'm entering - I love North Wales - first time for this race too. Plus in keeping with this thread I should hopefully have had my first crack at the Cuillin ridge by then. Roll on those lighter evenings and a chance to get our more.
Done Snowdon a few times it used to be ok but now with the need for it to make good telly,
the creeping commercialism, and no free food it has lost it`s charm so its Ben Rinnes for me.
I will still be running Snowdon Marathon though
Food is free again now I think.
free Pasta meal at the Vic.
Got my entry confirmed- who else is in?
I'm in (got to do better than last year!!!!):D
I'm in - that's the easy bit done!:)
entries for the above race will close soon - current entries 438, once 500 reached entries will close
Teams entering this year's race Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales

Is this race up and down, or just up?
Up and down you muppet.
Up & down.
I think there'll be an uphill only later in the year. It will be the trial for the GB team to go to the Europeaen(sp?) Champs. In the past this has been open to us Joe Joggers as well.
