Re: dick hudsons fell race
Here is an extract from what Bob, the organiser, posted on the Ilkley Harriers web site the other day ..
"The start will be at the Lower Tarn, as now has become custom, with registration opposite Darwin Gardens. As low-key and informal as ever, the idea is to get to Dick Hudson's and back, via any route you like, in any manner you like."
So, parking and registration below White Wells on Wells Rd, just like the Ilkley Moor fell race. Start from the tarn that you pass just after the start of the Ilkley Moor fell race, ie a few minute's jog away.
A quick glance at an OS map shows it's 10k as the crow flies.
There's an interesting road bike option (via Burley etc.), but I'm guessing that "in any manner you like" doesn't include car, gyrocopter, etc.?
Re: Dick Hudsons fell race - 2
I guess there are a few different routes up to the top of the Moor - anyone like to share their favourite? And is the quickest way up also the best way down on the way back?
Re: dick hudsons fell race

...all I can say on this is don't necessarily follow an Ilkley Harrier vest - I did a couple of years ago as we went up the steepest possible route to the top of Ilkley Crag only to see Daleside come past me having run back to and up the main path and the steps (though I did pull away from her from then on on the fast running over the moor -something I probably wouldn't manage these days!!).
Re: dick hudsons fell race
Might give it a go. What's the entry fee?

Thanks - I know the paths up to White Wells from Darwin Gardens, but didn't realise the race started from up by the tarn. I too would be tempted to run back and take a less steep route, but that's just me!
Has been pretty dry up on the moor over the past few weeks - that will all have changed now.

Re: dick hudsons fell race
Looking like a nice evening for this tonight. I was up on the moor on Monday morning and it was really dry up there, so should be fast.

They were coming off in all sorts of directions, i must've missed at least half the field and the images i got aren't that good either. Camera kept switching itself off and i was frequently ending up with too much zoom etc, could've done with being closer to the finish!
