Re. asking organisers to relax the rules. Always worth trying; contact them beforehand if you can, so you're not putting them on the spot on the day of the event. Bear in mind though that insurance constraints may be their number one consideration.
Once you start to get known, it should become easier. Important to stay within your limits though, otherwise you'll wreck your own case if you fail to finish or cock up your navigation.

well im doing it with a guy from my old club so obviously we cant train together really.also hes not ran for nearly 2 months and i cant be arsed running non-competitively
