Fellsman shoes
I've entered the Fellsman and am wondering about shoes. Currently I am running in Salomon XT Wings which I find OK (sometimes use with waterproof socks). Will these do or do I need something more knobbly? Interested in answers from the point of view of acceptance by the organisers (who seem picky on the web site) and suitability.
If I need something more knobbly would be easiest to stick with Salomon so don't have to mess with suitability of fit. In this case would try Salomon SpeedCross 2. Does anyone know if these are too hot as they do not appear to be mesh?

Re: Fellsman shoes
I think you should be fine in the salomon shoes to be honest as long as it isn't too wet, you might have to be careful on a few of the descents down steep grass but aprt from that they look fine.
As far as the organisers go I think they should accept them as long as they are not full of holes, and excessivley worn. I ran last year in Montrail Highlanders probably a bit more grip than the salomon but fairly similar shoe.
If you're in any doubt just contact the organisers they are pretty helpful.:)

Re: Fellsman shoes
The rules are stated as footwear is for running or walking in the hills / fells. Trail shoes are fine, last year i used inov8 315 trail shoes. it is right though that they must be in good nick, not on the verge of dropping to bits. i remember one soul (pun intended) that had his shoes held together with 'farmers friend' (baler band)

Re: Fellsman shoes
Yes make sure the soles are stuck on well.
A couple of years ago I was grouped with a chap who kept having to stop to bind up his shoes with bandages to hold the sole on - not fun.
Inov8 315s would be my weapons of choice....
