We tried to get in Albert Square but couldn't because it was full; I don't know how many people can fit in there but you're looking at hundreds of thousands. The photos I put up were just off Deansgate.

I'm hearing that DTS. Imagine:
Jebb's trainer sacked due to failure to win at Fairfield
Bell moves to Ambleside for 120k/week
Borrowdale to be renamed Sanyo in £3m vest sponsorship deal
Crowd violence follows Bailey's shock defeat at Edale
Sky package: only £30/week - watch every step of the English champs
Taggart refuses to sit on team bus after exclusion from relay team

Makes sense and explains my earlier posts. I left the gym too quickly to see the end. Too depressing to watch as a Gooner

Like the Soreen Stanbury Splash.... or the Daleside Auld Lang Syne.. Fell running has already been ruined by these big corporate sell outs... :-)
Plus there was almost a fight at the Moelwyns 2010? Between supporters and a runner.. not me..

I didn't hear about that. What happened? How "almost" was it?

Ye gads - you're right! Any local catteries or music shops prepared to sponsor my Cat and Fiddle down-and-up fell relay??
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
It was a language mix up I think.. supporters speaking welsh.. a runner turned around and got quite agitated that they were being insulted.. usual english in wales paranoia.. (the old 'they switched language when I walked in") and then later on at another point there was another flare up...
Gone to the dogs...
* Just seen how english gets a red line under on my computer.. spelt wrong for lack of capital latter.. yet not wales...

Don't feel sorry for us, we had a great time.

Championship is a mad league though.. must be the closest in the divisions.. 55 points saw you one draw off relegation.. 65 points saw you one win from the play offs..
They had to drop eventually.. you can't keep finishing 15th 16th year on year.. sad to see them go..

Re: Tonight's football thread
I don't expect an immediate bounce back, we've at least 55 games next season (46 x league, 6 x EL, 1 x Charity Shield, 1 x FA Cup, 1 x League Cup).

Beckham retires, cue a few days of press hysteria. An above average player whose ability never lived up to the hype. Made a major contribution to us getting knocked out of the 1998 and 2002 World Cups

Totally agree.. how many top managers agree with RH?
The simple fact is the worlds best managers have all loved him.. from Fergie, through to Capello, Eriksson and Ancelotti.. they can't all be wrong..
Yeah he had weaknesses but he was also an amazingly hard worker, yeah he's made mistakes too.. but so have most players. But above all he was a top top professional. Look at what he won, look at what Gazza won.. yeah Gazza was the better player but Beckham gave a hell of a lot off the ball.

Daz, I know what you mean, this isn't the City we know and love anymore, but if all his money was going to happen to anybody, i'm glad it happened to us. To be absolutely honest I stopped feeling, in the late 1980s, that supporting City was about wanting to win things. I enjoyed watching Paul Lake, Andy Hinchcliffe and our kids at Maine Road, and came to feel it was just about belonging, a connection with yourself and your roots and trying to have a laugh in the face of adversity. Lets be honest we had become the club where there was no grand epic, no plane crash, no colonising of the prizes and rewards of the Premier League, we just endured whatever life threw at us. We didn't have songs about glory, glory, or marching on, on, on but about standing alone, without a dream in our hearts, about things so awful we had to joke about not really being there, about being steadfast and loyal, for its own sake - till we died. All of which is me trying to provide an explanation for why the takeover by Sheik Mansour feels out of character for all of us....but hang in there matey we've kept the faith for so long now, remember 'We are City, Super City, we are City from Maine Road.

I totally agree Richard, typical of the man that he didn't want to announce it last week with Bacon retiring and Mancini getting sacked, oh no he wanted wall to wall breaking news. If he had played for any other PL team he would have become just another average player.Never have I seen a so called "world class player" so useless, he couldn't tackle, couldn't head, couldn't beat a man with pace or skill. Shooting was his forte. Nothing else and a real prima-dona too.

You clearly never watched him- sounds more like a description of Gareth Barry, except he can't shoot.

You'll never understand it Iain. You will be glad to know however that City fans are having a 1 minute applause on Sunday after 61 minutes in appreciation of Roberto and everything that he has done for us.
6-1
A dedicated moment of appreciation for Roberto Mancini at the last match of the season.

His next mission will be to get a knighthood. He'll do a few well publicised stunts for charity. We'll see him hold a dying kids hand, feed a few Africans and shed a few tears while making an impassioned plea for world peace. Only if he's accompanied by his publicist of course. He wouldn't want to waste any tears if no cameras were about.

Says it all about your class.. no I'll never be that bitter..
I have said many many times how much I rated Mario.. how much I rate Lamps.. how much I rate Gerrard..
To dismiss Beckhams ability just shows how one eyed you are.. so Danbo knows more about judging a player than all those who twice voted him one of the greatest players in the world.. SAF who selected him for so many years.. all the England managers who selected him for 100+ caps.. the managers of Madrid.. AC Milan And PSG who also took him to their clubs..
You are losing it this week Danbo.. head down.. calm down.. City will come again.. it probably won't take 40 years this time...

Beckham can now concentrate on eradicating disease, famine and poverty throughout the world. When he gets the knighthood he's desperate for and which has driven his non-footballing activities for years he'll act all humble and with a tear in his eye he'll say he never expected the honour and that he doesn't deserve it. To which the world will collectively shout at their TV screens "No you don't, you self serving media whore".

38... still playing top level football.. not many do that. Plus he's helped out at numerous campaigns..
The fact remains he got 115? england caps.. 10? titles in 4 countries.. and is one of the richest footballers in the world.. and I'm sure he's gutted you don't rate him.. as careers go I think he can bow out saying job done..

An interesting point. What is it about Gary Neville that a generation of fans didn't take to? And why do many of them think Phil Neville is okay?
As for Beckham, he did alright didn't he? Anyone who doesn't rate him is just jealous as far as I can see :closed:
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
Neville is rated by many as Uniteds greatest ever right backs.. Shearer once said he was the best crosser of the ball in the premiership...
Again RH shows his footballing knowledge..
I still can't work out how Man U won a treble wiH Butt, Scholes, Beckham, Cole, Giggs, Neville, Neville all who were shite.. managed by an alcoholic demented manager..
And then another 37 trophies..
Somehow.. somewhere.. we had some good players...
-
Re: Tonight's football thread
I see the hype has started all ready 'The first Englishman to win a league title in four countries' Don't think we count MLS and he only started one game for Paris St-G

Is this a joke? Tells you everything about City. They're in total despair, have just lost their manager, the board have shown that they're Chelsea-esque and...
You're still on about United! This is why you'll never be as successful as Utd; we dusted ourself down and came back to win the title at a canter this season. You lot are still pre-occupied with us.
What next? Mario Monday in honour of him setting off fireworks.

Either they are just being provocative to wind up, or they're idiots.

Hughes.. O'Neill is still a good manager.. he did well at Villa.. one bad job shouldn't end him.. or Hughes..
There's a fair few around..
Very surprised Duncan Ferguson is being mentioned..

Re: Tonight's football thread
A glimpse into life in the lower leagues, Accrington Stanley have announced a playing budget of £500,000 for next season to cover all signing on fees and wages. By my reckoning that comes to just over £9,600 a week for the full squad
