Plenty of time yet... form isn't that bad.. United have to go to Blackburn, 2 wins in last 8 there for us.. so not a great hunting ground.. but if we win then City have a big game. But look at Aresenal today, V QPR, who we play after B'burn. Look at the form table, Wigan, Blackburn and Bolton all OK in terms of form..
There's 2 points in it and you've a superior goal difference. So if we draw at Blackburn, all you have to do is win and your remaining games..
These points could yet be crucial. you've saved 5 points in the last 3 games by winning or drawing when behind with 10-15 mins to go. They've clearly still got spirit. It may not seem much but that's kept you in the hunt.
Its what United did, we just kept touch with you, kept scraping points and eventually your dropped points.. and I think that'll happen a few times yet.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Using the BBC predictor, you heard it here first....
Top 4
Man City 89 points
Man Utd 88 (blowing it by drawing at Sunderland on the last day)
Arsenal 77
Tottenham 75
Bottom 3
Aston Villa 34 points
QPR 34
Wolves 22

Re: Tonight's football thread
With City's only average away form I don't see em getting many points from Arsenal, Newcastle or even Norwich.
United by 2 points for me.
But I hope city win it. Everyone should have a turn.

Mancini's had one or two turns lately!

Tick Tock, tick tock

Re: Tonight's football thread
2-0 against Blackburn.. we dominated but they probably had the better chances, some good saves by De Gea.. but 2 very good late goals won it for us.. need to beat QPR now as a draw gives them some impredtus again.. If we can beat them, and then they drop points at Norwich I think that'll be enough..

All feels a bit of an anti-climax now. Sorry Danbert, but City haven't got a snowball in a bucket of hot piss' chance :closed:

Not a chance Fergie lets us throw it away now

If.. you've got 4 away games and you've won less than half of your away games all season.. Norwich are strong at home, then Newcastle and Arsenal will be very tough.. sometimes though playing away at the end of the season can be easier than at home. I think OT can get nervy..
Mancini's statement that we have won it if we win at home to QPR next was strange..

My glass is half full, I still believe we can do it. I am enjoying the best football I have ever seen at city in the 40 + years I've been watching them - it's not over yet

United could practically draw every game and still be in with a shout.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Just need to keep the pressure up.. we've a young squad so want to get clear quickly.. dropping silly points and suddenly it swings back.. if we beat QPR I think we'll do it..

Indeed, All it takes is a utd draw and a city win, and its back in our hands. If we're within 3pts before the Derby, it's still ours.

Arsenal will batter you, you've gone. You're a broken, dispirited, rudderless, bickering bunch of dickheads. Arguing with each other on the pitch and almost every week in the tunnel/dressing room, with a manager who's clearly had enough.
There is no way you've got the togetherness and commitment to a cause you need to keep up in a title race.
The only thing stopping united winning the title is United.

Assuming City don't win it this season, anyone want a sweepstake on what obscene sum they will spend in the summer in their pursuit?

I still think we will win it and besides i'm still really enjoying the experience of the thrills and spills of our 1st title shot in 40 years with many more to come (tick tock.) ;) It's not over until the trophy is at the swamp and thats 7 games away. Mark my words.... this seasons competition is still going to throw a few surprises at us yet.

Seems to me an acceptance of defeat Danbert - I'd guess more like 5 games actually. They may well clinch it at Sportcity - I bet Fergie would enjoy that :p

Not at all. Personally I think our season depends on getting a very tough 3 points at Arsenal on Sunday and I honestly believe we will, we have big big players who will be hurting after the Sunderland game so now is the time to step up to the plate and get a result, I firmly believe the title is still there for us – There’s 21 points still to play for and we're only five behind with 7 games to go and them still to play at home – Yes we are fast running out of games but I truly believe Sunderland will yet again play a big part in where this season’s title will go and they wont lay down for anyone under Martin O’Neill.
I’m loving every single second of this unbelievable season and wherever the title ends up... we will become stronger for it. I’ve never known so many people, paper’s, ex-players, every man and his bloody cat and dog etc etc cueing up to have a pop at City – Well listen people you can't even imagine where we have been as supporters of our club and to hell and back doesn’t even come close – I’m as proud as ever to be Blue and could once only ever dream of being involved in what we are right now.

I really don't get the pride thing... taken over by a billionaire... spend millions and millions..
United.. no money.. young unreliable players with geriatric support crew in Giggs and Scholes, a spent force take you all the way...
If there's pride in any team surely United have been the leagues over achieving team along with Newcastle and Swansea..

Iain you've got to admit that you've been scaping wins in your last few games. You aren't playing brilliantly at all and won't win every game. De Gay saved you last night for sure.
We MUST beat Arsenal and keep the gap to 5 points. And we MUST beat you lot at home. Do both and it's a coin toss as to who will win the title. If we do beat Arsenal, you lot will start worrying that it's not all over and maybe the pressure will start shifting back on you as you know you have to come to us.
I genuinely believe you will drop a few points with relegation scrapping QPR and Wigan. Then once we beat you at home all will be well.
God forbid we do finish second however, it is progression on last year and our board will sign more talent aswell as let go of fringe players and deadwood. Whilst you will be relying on the ever aging Scholes and Giggs.
My main positivity however, comes from the impending shit storm that will descend when Fergie retires. The new manager will be compared game after game for tactics and results and will ultimately fail ala Clough at Leeds. Whilst you are under new management we will be picking up the title and building a new era. Each year we win the stronger we become.
Cty's future is most certainly the most positive in the Prem with or without the title, which by the way I still think we will win.
There has never been a better time to be a citizen.
Come on City!!!

We've been seeing the same thing from you for 3 years..
Fergie will be a huge loss..
I don't know if we will win. I'd say we are 60-40 favourites. But one slip up and then City have the impetus again and will get going.. so its all very much in the air..
I don't know post Fergie. I think we need a huge signing, like Mourinho. Someone successful and big enough to be there own man.
I think United have a bright future. But remember when Ince and Hughes left? That was end.. Cantona left? That was the end... Schmeichel left.. the end.. Keane left.. the end... Beckham left.. the end.. Ronaldo left.. the end.. Tevez left.. the end..

Tell you what Iain I've got a funny feeling that Baconface will call it a day if you do win the league this year. I think he would look at it like he has just out done us this year (if you win it) and that we will only get better. Let's be honest he's not going to win another 3 European cups to overtake the scousers, so I think he might decide to go out on a high should you win the league.

I think he could go.. but its grasping at straws to suggest he's scared.. if anything he's loving this.. he's seen off Liverpool, Wenger, Mourinho et al. and has relished going against you.
City are being over pessimistic.. it needs a 1 game swing to have the title back in your hands.. Who'd have thought United would go through the Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool sequence of games and come out closer to you.. there's still just under a 5th of the season still to play..

Re: Tonight's football thread
Sounds like Leeds are in combative mood this afternoon. In the absence of decent players I reckon it's a good strategy. Bit rich to have Martin Keown slagging us off for it though. He was hardly Johan Cruyff was he.

Warnock's a genius. Get players rested up and fit for the final push in the last few matches. Why have 11 players out there working when 10 will do?

I once heard a story that towards the end of his career his legs were in plaster all week, he didn't train and had them cracked out for the match on Saturday. Legend.

Even better. Give the teams above us a false sense of security by losing this match. Then BAM! play-off time.
