Fair play to ya Will. A team that has netted over 50 goals at home and only lost once have had a fair season.

A few too many draws at home my friend. The likes of Stockport and Tranmere, which we both drew, really have come to haunt us. Saying that, we will always be saying 'If they'd done this and they'd done that.'
The Playoffs it is then. The one team I didn't want - Millwall! We have to win by more than one goal in the first leg (at home) to have any chance of coming out of the English equivalent of Galatasaray with some tickets for Wembley.

Best team won the league I think. Over the course of the season I think they've been better than United, and by more than a point, the fact that it was just a point is testament to Fergie and Rooney who kept us in it for so long.
Over all not a bad season, a cup, second, 1/4's in CL. Good points total in the league too, some silly defeats but that's the league this year.
We've also evolved a bit more, good age in the team, with the Silva's, Evra, Evans, Rooney, Valencia, Nani, Fletcher all at a good age and Giggs, Scholes et al are less important each year as these step up. Scholes has proved his worth though over the second half of the season.
Chelsea haven't really made any changes so have a core of a team which is rapidly entering the 30's.

I was surprised Chelsea only scored 8. Wigan let in 9 at Tottenham!:D

Some silly wins as well, beating City after 96 mins and 93 mins!
Something Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa couldn't do!

Hardly unusual for United though, we do it too often to be lucky.
The fact was in the league at City, they went for the draw, we went for the win. Make your own luck and all that.

Fantastic atmosphere at Christie Park on Saturday. 3rd highest ever attendance there behind the two FA Cup 3rd round ties against Weymouth and Ipswich and i was at all 3. Jim Bentley clattered their centre forward in the last minute which caused a right fracas including all their bench. Their manager was so wound up he interrupted Jim's interview with Sky 10 minutes after the match shouting abuse at him. Could be interesting if we both get to the play off final.
By the end of yesterday they had sold 1200 tickets already for the play off semi final. Time for revenge over the Daggers. They beat us on a penalty shoot out the first time we ever got to the Conference play offs 7 years ago

No need trying to disguise it. A mullering against an older, more experienced and physical side who stopped us playing and rose to the occasion in front of 15,000 hooligans.

Re: Tonight's football thread
We managed to sign off at Chrisite Park with a last minute win last night. Off to the new stadium next season. The diggers will move onto Christie Park on Monday and it will soon be another Sainsburys

Hmm....2-7 on aggregate. I like the fact that you are clearly a glass half full rather than half empty type of football supporter

They're not the most lovable of characters are they. Probably a bit like us I'm sure you would say.
One thing that suprised me though was why you had such a poor crowd at the Galpharm last Saturday. I definitely thought that you needed to take a lead from your home leg to stand a reasonable chance of going through against Millwall given their record at The New Den. So a large passionate crowd behind you might have helped.
Anyway, your team is young as you say and I'm sure you will be challenging next season.

After the 6-0 drubbing on Sunday there were some optimists around here who thought we could still get through but i wasnt one of them. The best we could hope for was to sign off 89 years at Christie Park with a win on the night.
For those of us who have supported them through the Lancashire Combination, Northern Premier League and the Conference, finishing 4th in this League seems like a dream. Would have been nice to round it off with another trip to Wembley but it wasnt to be this year.

Spot on. Attendance and atmosphere was terrible. It was much better when we played them in the League earlier in the season. I think because it's Millwall, many of the families (after all we are a so-called family club) didn't turn up and so this led to a fairly poor crowd.
We definitley needed a good lead to take to the Den of a couple of goals or so. I have never seen hooligans like it - throwing bottles across at us at our place, one of which hit a guy down the row from me and cut his forehead open. Disgusting lot - not fit to go anywhere. Then they all complain as to why they are hated so much! Leeds fans aren't in the same League as Millwall fans.
Still, next season looks bright. We've started our dealing in the transfer market already - 400,000 for a Scottish midfielder, seeing off interest from Southampton. Good luck in the Championship.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Excellent first close season signing for the Whites - Kasper Schmeichel on a free from Notts County. 5 more signings of that quality and we won't go far wrong.

I love Mick Mcarthy's commentating, he's just called the Serbian keeper a big tart. Legendary

I thought his was a harsh sending off. I think the referee is doing what he's been told. FIFA will then distance themself from his decisions and we'll be back to square one. It should be an interesting second half.

Germany miss a penalty????
Wonders will never cease. What a strange World Cup.
I suppose they can't blame the ball as they've been playing with it all year.

Not your typical German pen. Very poor

Well strictly speaking Podolski is Polish and not German so that might explain the lack of penalty expertise :D
-

Yeh, they looked proper rattled.
There is a chink of weakness in the German machine me thinks

Yep when they mapped the human genome they found the "penalty taking gene" widespread in the germanic population along with the "no sense of humour" gene and the "early towel on sunlounger" gene.
Amazing stuff this science ;):D
