That's just a selection of players, some of whom I'd completely forgotten cost so much, I mean £17m for Hargreaves, £18.6m for Carrick, £12.82m for Saha, £12.6m for Dwight Yorke, and that's in 1998 so with 14 years of football based inflation you can likely double that, at least, in real terms. United, since the Premier League began, have spent huge sums of money to be at the very top, it's hypocritical in the extreme for them to suggest money doesn't buy success. It does, and has, in Trafford. :sneaky:
I really shouldn't reply... you are losing it Danbert... I can imagine you know pointing at the computer screen ranting 'I'd love it if we beat them..'
Yeah we've spent, not as much as others, we've also brought through more kids than almost any team in the league. But We've contended with Blakburns millions, Liverpools millions under Houllier and Benitez, now Dalglish, your millions.
Every one spends.. but we've a) not spent as much as others.. and most importantly) b) made a profit.. i..e sustainable growth and c) won..
Re: Tonight's football thread
Good point by Fergie on decisions.. when Ballotelli should have been sent off against spurs then scored the winner... if we are talking of hypocrits..
Then arrogance.. and no team talk needed...
'Welcome to Manchester'.. I say no more..

Thing is Mancini is coming out as weak.. using Vieira to speak out.. we should bring back Keane.. he knew how to shut Vieira up..
But also saying refs favour United is questioning the integrity of referees.. something Fergie has been banned for... but yet again the FA won't act..
City player misses drugs test.. small fine..
United player misses drugs test 8 month ban...
And United are favoured...

This is typical Danbert bollocks...we've recouped £305,840.00 of that making a net transfer spend of £8.8m per season since the start of the Premier League - about the same as Tottenham and below Chelsea, Liverpool and.....
Man City? Spent £649,180,000 and recouped £166,053,000 making a net transfer spend of £24.1m per season since the start of the Premier League. Nearly 3 times as much and bear in mind most of their spending has come in the last few years.

Yeah, it would be hypocritical of United to criticise City for spending cash to attain success. All successful clubs need to splash the cash. That's football.
So why haven't Liverpool, who have spent more than Utd during the Premier League era, won the Premier League?

Re: Tonight's football thread
Scary thing for Man U is how many donkeys they have bought, NOT MANY!!! Fergie is scarily good in the transfer market, most of his big money spends have done well (apart from Veron). Wenger I don't think is so good, some of the big spends have flopped big time, he buys quite a few players but seems to do better with the middle market buys....

I don't think that Wenger's that bad generally but he's awful at spotting good defenders
