There's sometimess/often water on the climb up G. Fawr, but from then on there is no reliable source. I tend to drop a bottle before the climb up Lliwedd, under a rock,a nd then pick that up and either drink there and then and collect after, or carry it onwards. There's sometimes water at the summit, but that's often poured out when you get there and I normally just push on..Quote:

I did the full Peris last year & can highly reccommend it. Following is probably ok until the Glyderau, but it won't be a big field so you've a very good chance of being on your own in the latter stages.
Bit late for a recce I suppose!
That path off Glyder Fawr is pretty straight forward for the first half mile but then mysteriously disappears and goes to the far right with no visible path.
Unless you realise its the right way to go you would be totally lost in mist.
I lost around 30min on the short course 1000m which now takes in Glyder Fawr.
I finished in just over three hours feeling almost like i had not run 10miles due to my slow pace off the Glyders.
I must go over that section again because if you continue staight down as i did you have to cross over some very boggy ground to eventually join up with the original path and then finding the best route to the stile next to Pen Y Pass youthhostel is not that easy either even in good weather like i had.
I believe its this section off Glyder Fawr to Pen Y Pass that could mean a good or almost good time on the full Peris course.

Would anyone be able to tell me the route of the half Peris please?
I know the route roughly but want to know if there's any checkpoints etc and which tops to visit. Can't see anything on the Eryri website.

Did a recce of the full route this week I eventually picked the path up of Glyder Fawr tp Pen Y Pass (noticed many of the rocks are tagged with a red dot along this path) , but couldn't find the start of it from the summit also what is the cut off time for the full route at the pass can anyone (Iain R) help
Those red dots were there years ago, I'm not sure they have anything to do with the race. Then again they were pretty faded back then so might have been retouched.
I don't think they've been re-touched, nothing to do with the race as far as I know, they are almost unfollowable now but you don't use that path lower down anyway..Quote:

To get the start its a bit tricky, you descend rough ground, loose rocks for 100m and then find any number of minor paths which eventually lead out to the flatter grassy area. Worth recceing the start of that. There is a good line, but I've never found it in the race so have just gone direct..its almost S from the summit then SSW. But just head SW ish and stay at the toe of the craggy/rocky ground of the ridge proper on the flatter grass and the path is 50-100 m to the left.Quote:

minor question - where's best car parking for the start/finish in Llanberis?
You can park in the Hotel carpark Daz and walk down to the start. The finish is just across the road from the hotel. Use either the small car park at the back of the hotel or the ones to the sides.Quote:

Is there really a 2:45 cut off at Pen y Pass for the full race? I've never heard of that before and I'm sure there's nothing on the official entry form saying this.
8 people were listed as "KO" in last year's results - I'm guessing that stands for Kut Off! :wink:

Think I'm going to do the half myself this year. Definitely tempted by the full though, but I haven't ran that far in quite a while, though I did a 20 mile / 9000 ft walk yesterday and found that surprisingly comfortable... Then again, running is a different matter!
Is it stupid to go for it without recceing the Glyder Fawr to PYP section? I know the rest of the route very well but never been down that way before.
I've just looked at the weather forecast, I might be having second thoughts!

Blooming ace recce today. Nailed it round to Pen y Pass. Not sure it was the most direct off Glyder but seemed to have a path almost all the way and fairly runnable - or rather would have been in studs rather than trails.. Off to recce the finish from Snowdon down tomorrow... Walking permitted only :-)

A rather cloudy day with outbreaks of rain. These light to start with but becoming heavier through the afternoon. Southwesterly winds also increasing steadily through the day and this, accompanied by the rain and widespread low cloud, will lead to challenging conditions for some climbers.
Visibility
Moderate to good, but very poor in any hill fog.
Hill fog
Widespread hill fog above 600 m to start, this gradually descending to 200 to 300 m by the afternoon.
Maximum winds above 500m
Southwesterly 40 mph.
About spot on, luckily there's almost no nav on this. Nice thick cloud over the elidirs could be nice too. Petty the wind isn't stronger, but some rain should make lliwedd more fun.Quote:

Could be shortened....the full one I mean...40 mph winds...rain.. 10 deg's, with 40 mph winds it'll feel fairly cool on the tops..if it is I think I'd just do the long on my own.
Isn't the weather always like that in Snowdonia?

The Peris has been pretty lucky, much more so than the 1000m peaks as our summer tends to be April/May and then late in the year.Quote:

Which ever forecast you look at it the weather certainly declines during the day.
As you say 50mph is nowt really. 80+ mph needed for that flying effect iirc.

i remember running a shortened course a few years ago,it was due to very strong winds,some of the rocks on top of Elidir fach were getting blown along the ground you could hardly stand up.the route by-passed the lliwedd and went up the pyg track to snowdon,but the weather did improve during the day though as i remember.personnaly i cant see the fun in running in such difficult conditions,i`d just opt out and do some quality training session lower down,the race will still be there next year and the mountain will most certainetly be.
