Just quickly the main route options.. they aren't huge but probably save 5-10 minutes..
1. illegal use of inclines in quarries.. banned and would be DSQ for using them..
2. Elidir Fawr... I take the paddy line.. others swing via the gully..
3. Short cuts on garn.. the path zigs..
4. Glyder Fawr.. stay left and directish then back right and you pop out nearer the summit than following path..
5. Descent... drop left off the path..
6. Lliwedd.. traverse peak 1..
7. Snowdon.. direct line to summit.. East ridge.
8. Shortly after the summit direct to the ranger.. later on follow the fence and grass rather than ranger
9. Top of cynghorion.. straight line the summit..
No defence of the title...
You can cross the rail way anywhere.. get down to it asap anyway then when you see the line to the ranger take it.. in cloud its not worth the risk so just stay on the train track..
No ben Nevis.. Jungfrau this weekend then Maine USA for a while...
Cheers.. I'll put a report up.. sounds a classic.. 15 miles of road.. mainly up hill for the last half.. basically a flat first half.. but a big race so should be a great atmosphere..
Anyone doing this? I am planning on doing it, it will be my first AL and have recce'd the route. Is anyone either from betws y coed/dolwyddelan area or passing through there? I am stuck getting a lift as the missus has the car i would really appreciate a lift if anyone is passing through, have been looking forward to this race all year :)
Just to add.. hugely recommend Jungfrau Daz.. a classic european style mountain race.. very flat fast 10k start, then 15k on undulating minor roads and trails in a lovely alpine valley.. then a steep climb for 10 miles + but interspersed with flatter sections.. I ran every step until maybe 39k.. when I walked a bit towards and on a morraine ridge.. I doubt there is a more stunning finishing location in running.. right under the N face of the Eiger. Crowds on the course are superb. Its not a fell race at all.. but still a brilliant race and rightly a classic.
