7.23 miles, 68 minutes, in the fields around the Roman ruins. Some cattle in one of the fields - nice to see some signs on the gates warning of their presence and politely asking people to keep the gates closed.

waited for wife to get home from work and she fancied a walk, so off to Witton, Billinge Woods, Hoghton Bottoms, Golf Course and home

Still no running. What a time to get plantar fasciitis!!
Todays PDE was a steady 5 mile and 500ft evening run in the fields between Monyash and Flagg. In all there were 41 obstacles on my route consisting of various stone stiles, wooden stiles, gap stiles, small wooden gates, a ladder stile and a kissing gate. Not a notice/sign on any of them.
A cool, breezy but sunny evening the highlight being a meadow full of cowslips and a few orchids. Not a human being to be seen. Lovely.
7.6 miles, 2,169 feet, one hour 51 minutes, along the Wansfell Ridge and back. Quite a few on the roads, some reluctant to distance more than a few feet, even though it would be easy to do so. Lots of ladders up against house walls, with tradesmen's vans nearby.
Post work walk with the wife.

9.79 miles, 3,130 feet, 2 hours 32 minutes, Wansfell Ridge to Kirkstone (no cars), back over Red Screes. Only six others once on the fells. Yet another superb day.
Much has been posted about the notices put up by farmers and others telling people that paths are closed. But there's been none of that around here; the farmers have all been very sensible. So it has been left to the Borough Council to inject some stupidity into the situation.
They own the Outwoods, and decided to close them to the public when lockdown was announced: completely irrational, there's far more space for social distancing on the main paths in the woods than on most of the Public Rights of Way in the area, which were still open. Anyway, it was a fairly half-hearted closure, just some tape and some notices, which people simply ignored. A week or two later, they realised that there is a Public Footpath through the woods, so they moved the tape and notices off to the side of the path, and people carried on ignoring them.
I went up there today, and they have put erected a quite substantial metal barrier at the entrance I wanted to use. I could have crawled under it quite easily, but walked on outside the wood to a gap in the wall, and entered the wood that way. I carefully kept my distance from the other people I passed inside the wood, and eventually emerged onto the Public Footpath, after going round to the side of another barrier.
So some of my Council Tax has been spent on sending a couple of blokes in a van up to the woods to erect these barriers, just a few days before an announcement that seems likely to start easing the lockdown.
First time in weeks I felt a little better, had a nice ride on the bike, enjoying the afternoon sunshine.
Just a gentle ride around the bridleways of temple newsam. The golf course looks in excellent condition.
Hopefully boris is going to be kind to golfers.
Just 14k travelled with 250m of lumps.
