    Jubilee Plunge

Race is looking doubtful at the moment. The going is what I'd be describing as slippery mud over frozen ground - it's raining hard at the moment and around 4 degrees but if the temperature drops overnoght I'll have to call it of. The pub's still open though and I'll be there to play pool with any takers!!!!

Confirmation that it's off - I went out half an hour ago and nearly broke my shoulder again!

    Exclamation Jubilee Plunge

50% chance of this going ahead. Last year it was cancelled because of a rapid thaw leading to a positively dangerous surface of water/mud sitting on top of hard ice. Monday could have the same combination on the upper part of the mountain!

Lanes around Llangynhafal are also fairly dreadful at the moment!!!

    Re: Jubilee Plunge

Race is cancelled - there's been a partial thaw today but it's freezing again which has led to very slippery approach roads which are ungritted. Ice on the mountain on top of the snow is also somewhat hazardous and I cannot contemplate a safe race in the circumstances.

On a personal note our cars are still down in the village and father-in-law couldn't get up for his Christmas dinner yesterday!!!

    Re: Jubilee Plunge

I think that you should move the Jubilee Plunge to the Easter holidays every year Martin. Like Christmas, most people will have a little time off and the weather will probably be a lot better for it.

Plus, while other people are rolling their eggs downhill, we will all be rolling ourselves downhill! It's a time of year tailor-made for downhill racing.

    Re: Jubilee Plunge - CANCELLED

Went to the top yesterday to see if, despite the cancellation of the race, anyone would turn up. Four runners decided to jog back to Cadole but the eight of us left decided to take the plunge and do an unofficial gallop back to the Goldie. Conditions were slutchy on top of very hard ground (ooh me back!) and despite long cross country spikes I was still 3 minutes down on last time. Several falls, nothing too bad but two of us had a lucky escape at the last stile!

I love this mad dash downhill race, especially when treated with fantastic weather and views like we had this year. Many thanks to Martin and helpers.... All the best Martin with your trip around the world, you'll be missed on the fells. Good to see you showing your class winning the v60, top man. Fantastic run also by Helen (British/English joint fellrunning champ 2013) breaking the ladies course record.
    Cheers, Darren...Chorley.
