    Lakes Training Run

    Morning.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions for a decent training run in the Lakes between 20 and 30 miles for me.

Looking to do it this weekend, so weather and light will come into play.

    Many thanks in advance

And will go off piste alot?

Looking for something a bit more manageable and easy to navigate.

Hursty, it looks like a bit of snow forecast, you might want to factor that in.

I shall be in Keswick from NYE on.

20-30 miles is way more than I was planning to do but I'd love to get out: was thinking more something like the Anni Waltz route (Newlands horseshoe) or Coledale Horseshoe - both in the order of 11-12 miles I think, and 3,500-4000ft.

Righto mate, will def have a careful check of the weather and pick a route accordingly.

Heading up Saturday morning I think, will let you know what route is most likely on the cards, it might have to be sub 20 miles due to conditions.

20 miles round the Lakes is a loooong way - Borrowdale's only 18!

Autumn in Lakeland LDWA challenge event route is c21ml / 5000ft iirc and is a very scenic low to med level circuit of Derwent Water. It'd make a good 4-5hr training run

I would suggest you look at doing something shorter.
The Kentmere Horseshoe ( 12 miles) in current conditions are a real challenge, and if you are feeling completely knackered you can cut out Harter/Kentmere Pike & drop down at Nan Bield and return down the valley.
Then head into Staveley for a brew in Wilfs and a chat with Jebby

Due to poor weather I recently ran around Skiddaw from keswick, via latrigg, Millfield, carlside etc and down towards bassethwaite viillage. made it a circuit by comming back east of Skiddaw via the obvious Skiddaw house paths then back down from latrigg. really good and quite a fast route with only one steep up hill onto Carlside. i guess around 15 miles?

now that corniceman sounds interesting: did you go over Ullock Pike and down the ridge to Bassenthwaite?
