Junior and Senior European Championships - uphill only

The European mountain running championships are being held in Cauterets, France on Sunday 8th July. For the first time there will be separate races for junior athletes (aged 16-19 on 31 December 2007). (http://www.cauterets2007.com)

Trials for the senior and junior GB teams will be held on 17 June, from Llanberis. Subject to satisfactory standards we will be sending full teams in the seniors (4 men, 4 women) and juniors (4 men, 3 women).

Selection will take place immediately following the trial. The first two finishers in each trial race will be automatically selected for the GB/NI team. The further two places (or one for the junior women) will be determined by the selection panel with greatest emphasis on performances in the trial race.

All eligible athletes are expected to compete in the trial races. Any athlete who is unable to compete in the trial for exceptional reasons, but who still wishes to be considered for selection must notify me in writing/by email before the trial races. Places will not be held over beyond the trial date for athletes to prove fitness.

The selectors and UK Athletics are committed to sending the best possible mountain running team to the European Championships. The selectors reserve the right, where performance standards are not considered sufficient, to not select a full team.

For some unfathomable reason, I quite like this race. I've not checked the calendar for conflicting races, but is the race open to no-hopers?

The event is limited to athletes selected to represent their Country (i.e. GB/NI).

Why is the Trial race being held 9 days after the event? Or is this an error with dates being posted?

8th Juillet on the website. One presumes this is July in French but I skipped the week at school when we did the months!
