    My Christmas Films

Okay I admit it, I have nothing better to do than to share my Christmas film viewing list with the unwary among you that accidentally clicked on this thread . This will almost certainly upset the 'no TV' fascists among the forum too but.... who cares .

I have added my own little star ranking system ---> * = crap and ***** = brilliant.

Elf - a really funny film (I thought it would be utter crap) with the best screen burp ever ****

The Grinch - Okay with Jim Carey you either love or hate him but I love him in this film ****

    50 First Dates - a brilliantly funny film *****

Star Trek Origins - pretty good action and special effects ***

He's just not that into you - a chick flick, the kind that my daughters force me to watch. Funny and dangerously real to life though ***. I would have given it 4 stars had it not had such an effing stupid name

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - brilliant of course *****

Mama Mia - for the gazzillionth time *****

The Sound of Music - for the gazzillionth gazzillionth time. I once would have given this 5 stars but I've long gone past my Sound of Music tipping point ****

Public Enemy - Johnny Depp fantastic as usual ****

Troy (directors cut) - superb *****

Avatar (at Burnley Apollo) - the story is pretty basic and fairly predictable but this has to be visually the most lush film I have ever seeen. Brilliant. *****

The Beach - a really good film and one that definitely appeals to my oldest daughter's wanderlust ****

    Gladiator - brilliant *****

As you can see I've been really busy this Christmas. All watched on TV or from DVDs (apart from Avatar) in the past 12 days

The Beach is good, Di Caprio's a cracking actor but people associate him too much with Titanic. Have you seen Blood Diamond? he's quality in that.
Luke Appleyard (Wharfedale)- quick on the dissent

Elf and the sound of music were on TV. The rest were DVD or blu ray

Veg out day yesterday with three DVD's

Area 9: Good/disturbing film, a bit flabby in the middle and descended a bit into gratuitous action but enjoyed. 8/10

Inglorious Basterds: Really enjoyed it, some fairly nasty violence but plenty of humour also. All main characters excellent. You could accuse Mr T of being a bit self-indulgent but, if you're a fan, you'll love it. 9/10

Coraline: Great animation and a really dark storyline. Could do with trimming a bit but good fun. 8/10

I haven't watched any films this year but did enjoy the BBc animation of the Gruffalo with the kids!...

out of your choices Stolly I really liked Elf and the Grinch...Bad santa is an excellent film too....some of my favourite all time films include Amelie, In Search of a midnight kiss and various Woody Allen capers including the classic Sleeper and Annie Hall
