    as Swiss Toni says Keswick YHA is fine - and I might be wrong but I think you can get a bed for less than £18, but maybe it depends on the time of week or the season, and on how full it is.

    But it is very annoying that the breakfast is not optional.

    and if you can't get in there - there's always Borrowdale YH, which is even more fell-friendly!

    There's also Derwentwater YHA about opposite Catbells on the Borrowdale road. Think Bob Graham ran it as a hotel or lived there back in the day

    indeed, forgot about that one - can remember having a very nervous night's sleep there before my first ever race....
