    'Lost' albums

Remember playing this game with Ciderman and a few others on Forum Mk2. Suggest your nomination for a 'lost' album from the last decade i.e. a brilliant album that totally failed to break into the mainstream.

My nomination. 'The Sound Inside' by Breaks Co-Op.

For any children of the 90's, probably just me, softie and hursty?:

Fantazia 3, 'Made in heaven' mixed by Carl Cox. Still the best mix CD i own.

Luke Appleyard (Wharfedale)- quick on the dissent

Guillemots has got to worth a mention here. There first album was amazing. Awesome live aswell.

I'm somewhere between Laura Marling, Alas I Cannot Swim and A Fine Frenzy, One Cell In The Sea.

    Laura Marling

    A Fine Frenzy

I'll go and listen to both again and come back with a final nomination tomorow.

I had an album by a band called "Pop's Cool Love" in the '90s. The album was eponymous I think and as I recall they supported the Rollins Band at a gig I went to. They were a really good funk-rock band, a bit like the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.

    Re: 'Lost' albums

Kings of Convenience - Quiet is the New Loud (2001?).

Not totally lost with a couple of remixes winning a cult following, but definitely not mainstream and deserved to be a lot bigger.

I'll vote for Guillemots too: 'Made up Love Song #...' was a fantastic single.

And what about Richard Hawley's output? Another one that deserved much wider recognition.

Finally(for now), I forget the title, but Eels 2004/05(?) album was another.

Maybe there should be another thread looking at the flipside: massively overrated albums of the last 10yrs, 'Don't believe the Hype', perhaps? Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs can kick that one off.

DT - would agree with Arab Strap, but wasn't that the 90s? 1997ish?

    Re: 'Lost' albums

I bought the Kings of Convenience album off the back of a remixed single (Toxic Girl?) but was not overly impressed. A bit too quiet, perhaps

Philophobia was May 1998 according to Amazon, which sounds about right. Brilliant live. When I saw them they kicked off with Packs of Three

Agree re Richard Hawley. What a talent!

And also an 'oldie' bringing things up to date - a bit like Wheeze et moi... Ernest Ranglin "Below the Bassline" - whoops - looks like 1996 - but still great

Try this. Off a later album (Riot on an Empty Street).

If you still don't do YouTube, it's called I'd Rather Dance with You. Get it. I give you a money back guarantee (assuming we're talking single track download cost!)

One for Wheeze: The Gruff Rhys side project Neon Neon's Stainless Style.
