    Good Shepherd - 22nd Sep

After finishing last at Ingleborough I am hoping to do this race if not injured. Last year it clashed with an English Championship race at Thievely Pike and only had around 35 entries IIRC.

Excellent route and very well marked towards the end.

A race that deserves better support

I did it in 2005,as you say it did suffer last year clashing with Theively Pike. Should be a better turnout this time. Its a Calder Valley championship race so a few of us should be there. Its a good, well marshalled, course.

I'm doing it if I get round the Three Shires without any mishaps

Enjoyed this last year. Shame that I will miss it this time. Good race - recommend it highly. Excellent soup at the end as well.

I'm doing this race for the first time.
Good reports saying it has top marshalls and good route markers, does it require a recce?

It doesn't require a recce, as say a lakeland long does, but one would help... it's straightforward until you get to the checkpoint at Turley Holes Edge, which is the conduit you run round from Withins Clough Reservoir. Then you go straight across rough ground to the next checkpoint - if you know the noonstone its similar to that (in fact its the same moor - just a different part of it) except its rougher. Last year was a glorious sunny day and I could see Adam Breaks of CVFR up in front taking a pretty good line... if it's claggy then it might be a bit tricky. Also there's a few twists and turns at the end.

So that makes it a championship race for Rossendale, Middleton, Rochdale, Radcliffe, Tod and Calder Valley.

Guess its going to be busy. And competitive!
