I dont want to be doing anything on the track and i never run on the roads, all my training is done on the fields and small hills close to my house.

Im quite worried about noonstone, in that its too far to be able to run flat out like you can do in a short races, but not long enough to settle into a plod pace like you'd do in a long. Ive never raced in a medium before other than races like kentmere which only just missed out on being a long.

All tips/advise/comments welcome....apart from point out the obvious and saying "just run 9 miles fast".

    Currently my training is...
    Monday - Swim
Tues - Swim and then hill reps 1000ft
    Weds - Rest
    Thurs - Easy/steady 4 miler or rest.
Fri - Easy/steady 4 miler or rest. - might become a more intense hill rep session.
    Sat - Rest
    Sunday - Hard 12.5 miler - 1000ft
I alternate thursday and friday each week depending on which of the evening im working.
I cant do any more than 3 sessions a week because my knees will pack in.
Glad to see your training has intensified mate, last time you discussed it you weren't doing a lot oweing to your knee issues, does this mean you're free of ITBS?

At the risk of being told to STFU i'd probably say from my own experiences that you're addressing a problem that doesn't exist. My first ever fellrace was an AM and i never dropped to shorts until i had my knee issues started, once my quads were over the shock of the increase in exertion it was plain sailing. The only thing seems to be that mediums tend to have more flattish bits compared to shorts so any improvement in your stamina will help to stop you using these sections as rests.

My opinion would be that it's more of a mental battle really, on the Dufton Pike race that 2m flat section before and after the Pike is a real tw@t if you're gunning it, maintaining your max speed becomes a real fight and the Settle Tough Trail is just 10m of that all the way round.

Got out on my push iron for a cheeky 20 miler last night, i gave it up when my knee started but i'm going to have to crack on with it to keep my aerobic fitness up. I used to swim a lot too but i can't do with the crowds and the grannies in the fast lane going to get back into it as i plan to do a Tri this year and need to learn to swim F/C without drowning.

Its true about the mental games, im sure once ive done one i'll be able to just get on with it.

I must admit, this training has only been going on for erm, a week....but this is how i plan to continue.
Still have ITB trouble, but ive decided that i cant sit and wait for it to really hit me again. They hurt constantly but i just give it a quick battering on the foam roller (which is now abit soft and doesnt really work anymore) but ive decided i want to try and string together a few quality weeks leading up to noonstone and see if a suffer less.

Still have trouble with my ex, but ive decided that i cant sit and wait for it to really hit me again. It used to hurt constantly but i just give myself some painkillers quick (which is now abit useless and doesnt really work anymore) but ive decided i want to try and string together a few quality weeks leading up to Valentines day and see if a suffer less.
