    Water

I'm very much of the Ron Hill school of hydration and its rare I drink anything other than tea or beer. Historically I've largely been of the opinion that water's okay for filling the wash-bottle in your car or cleaning your Walshes with if they're particularly mucky but that's about it really

I know its now de rigeur to have a couple of litres with you if you're walking any further than from your car to the front door of ASDA and there were people at Stanbury yesterday with camelbacs for a 7miler but do fellrunners see any advantage in it? Has anyone on here tried it?

I'm going to drink a litre a day for a week or two and will post my findings here I'm just hoping I have room still for a pint in an evening!

I'm probably a bit over-cautious with hydration: whether it's just a psychological thing or not I dunno, but it makes me feel better, and I quite like the stuff.

By the time you have a dry mouth or feel thirsty you're already quite dehydrated, so I like to chog down a bit of water every hour so whatever I'm doing.

I especially like being well tanked-up when I start a race so I'll probably glug down a pint or two beforehand.

I don't like buying water so I save a few plastic bottles and fill one up from the tap if I'm going on a journey or summat. It's one of my bugbears that we have so few water fountains or taps in public places (there's half a dozen in Hyde Park, and none of them work).

I've had 750ml through the morning and feel sick It always leaves me feeling bloated, I don't know why. Heaven knows how anyone could drink 'pints' of it before a run

So maybe with the way your used to not drinking water, it might be best to carry on that way.

Ditto, the tastes vary tremendously it's awesome. I especially savour the slight earthiness of peaty water, but it's got to be from high up or it gets too heavy. There's a little beck by Crina Bottom on the way up Ingleborough which drains through the peat on the slopes, i stopped for a mouthful on last years race and it was the best drink i've ever had.

On the flipside of the coin Dowber Gill beck is good for clarity and there's a couple of springs on the way up the footpath that are lovely and crisp.
